US post office annual cost: $15.9 Billion
In order to get all that junk mail you received this year ended up costing the tax payer 15.9 billion.
I'm all for the postal service, especially in extremely rural areas where a post office can be one of the few stable jobs in town, let alone their only link to the outside world, but extreme and real change needs to happen now.
Sell off what you can to fed ex and UPS and be done with it.

.....except that pretty much all of their loss can be traced to their dated and asinine pension system. Yet it's so easy for morons to come in and say "HURR JUST GET RID OF THEM" or more retarded statements like "JUST END SATURDAY DELIVERIES HURR".
and that fedex and ups are at least 200% the price for consumers

Well that's completely false and I don't see how to get that wrong when it's in the second ****ing sentence of the article.

I prefer USPS over the other carriers. They're cheaper and faster than fedex and UPS but almost half.

That's because it is not capitalist. It is not allowed to make a significant profit. Interesting, huh.

My father is a retired Postal Inspector. His pension, along with his military retirement, is amazing. I could only dream of making that much in retirement.
The benefits are really good as well. But, his body had to take a toll to an extent. Not as bad as some of the letter carriers, but still had to have hand surgery twice as well as one toe joint replacement from job related injuries....

The taxpayer owes people jobs that don't produce much and aren't needed? Interesting outlook you have on life, sir.

If thats what you're worried about then you should be first in line to support cuts to the military.
But my guess is that thats not the case...

BRB LEARNING 10th GRADE SOCIAL STUDIES.
K, looks like a common theme with great economic powers throughout history in all parts of the world had an equally strong military presence to go along with it.
I know you think the military is evil and we have no reason to need F-22's and nuclear powered carriers with dozens of advanced military aircraft on board, but the reality is, if we didn't have those, the world would plunge into war fairly fast. It wouldn't be good for your hipster lifestyle as Apple and Patagonia products would skyrocket in price.
Would you like to try again maybe?

The f22 analogy was bad. Those things are expensive paper weights.

It was more a, why people choose the other carriers over USPS is beyond me. It's obviously the better choice but people refuse to use them.

No, no we do not. Private companies can deliver things faster, cheeper, and more effeciently than the USPS can.
Its time to let it die, its time has come and gone, its a bygone of an older era.

Meh, I gotta disagree. They're presence alone gives us a lot more political influence than you might imagine. 185 (-1 from the crash today ) invisible to radar generation 5 air to air fighters opposing you, and your likely to not be so assertive with your own military.
If you like I can edit it and replace F-22's with most advanced air force...

What's the point of having them and not using them? A fear of capability isn't enough.

So you believe the constitution is a living document then. Good.
