Any particular reason for semi-auto and that caliber? You will end up with a much nice rifle all around if you stick with a bolt gun, and much better ammunition to select from in .223 or .308 Win. Yugo M59/66 are some of the nice SKS rifles available, and aside from WASR-10 AKs the only real option for you in that caliber/price range.

The Spanish FR-8 and Ishapore 21A Enfileds are two bolt action rifles in .308 with full wood stocks, and withing your price range.

no youll buy a surplus, the Fr8 mausers go for 350 and are a bit easier to find than the ishapores in my experience.

No, and nobody make SKS rifles anymore either. They are all used/surplus.

There is an Australian company that makes a rifle based on the Enfield that takes AK47 magazines, but they are rather uncommon here in the states and can be rather exspensive.

If you want a 7.62 and semi auto check out a Saiga. They're imported from Russia and are very similar to an AK47.

But if you do buy one, make sure you read about the 922r rules.

saigas are very similar to an AK-103 not an ak47
they use the ak100 series bolt which is kind of sort of a ak74 bolt modified to accept a 7.62x39 if i recall correctly.
they are not an AKM family gun

I used a Remington 870 previously, and it worked great for trap, but skeet almost necessitated buying an O/U. Since about the start of the semester, I've put upwards of 1,000 rounds through mine without a single issue, and plan to continue shooting with it for a long time.

I picked it up for $350 used, bought some aftermarket choke tubes, and a new recoil pad to get it in shooting condition. The gun itself is very light, so without the recoil pad you'll have some serious fatigue and bruising. Pick up a Pachmayr slip on and don't worry about it.

The action will be very tight at first, but it's not something to worry about. Mine is finally starting to loosen up to the point where it opens on its own as I hit the lever.
I will look into this thank you very much kind sir. I had plans to just get a glock due to it being cheap anduser friendly (from what glock owners had told me) but after shooting some clays i really really really really want to get into this. The guy that took me is nice enough to let me use his guns but i dont want to mooch for toooo long. Going back out next thursday. It was possibly the most fun ive had in a very long time to be honest.

Try out all the different games you can. I think moving beyond the standard trap and skeet is a nice change at times. I shot 5-stand for the first time recently, and even though I didn't do well, I had a whole lot of fun doing it. Same with bunker trap, although I did relatively well at that.

But there's no reason to go out and drop $1,000+ on a gun when you're just starting out. Run a few 25's, and consistently score above 20 before you upgrade. Fundamentals before perfect consistency.

yea i dont wanna be the guy with a $2000 gun but cant shoot for ****. When we went out we didnt keep score but he said for a first timer i did very well. Since im "taking a break" from lazer warz i can sell one of those ****ty toy guns for some real fire power. There are a couple places where i live and im finding out that a few of the hunters at work are avid shooters as well so they are opening my eyes.

Real firearms > paintwarz.

They also keep their monetary value much, much better than a paintball gun.
