New to MacDev, Tech Q's , & My new decibel meter data.

First off my all time Favorite marker and the one I still use from time to time is a Gen E Trix, Upped... Shot one since they came out.

Since I again started playing events after a few seasons off, I wanted to have a "more modern" gun. Got a Ego 7.. Ehh then a 2012 Invasion, impressed but a poppet... I still missed the shot of my Trix in Events.

Then I investigated and found MacDev and after researching I decided on a Vx'd Clone and after getting it Chronoing it, and putting multiple pods through it. I am hopeful that I found a new "Favorite"

A Few ??'s and Comments and the New Db meter...

1st: I have read that the operating pressure is 100 psi. Whats the lowest anyone has gotten ?

2nd: I have looked and I couldn't find any scientific data on the sound signature of the gun and barrel combo's. I always thought that the Trix was "VERY" quiet and with a great shot the only weakness now is the size and efficiency. (Things that the Clone have on it hands down.)

We shot with a new Decibel meter the Clone VX and the DM3 and both shot Identical sound levels of 90dB. I was impressed, Is there any interest out there for other dB tests ? We have done some and have a fancy new program we are trying out.

Data:

Clone Vx with a CP 2 Pc. .685 Anarchy Paint = 90dB
Clone Vx with a CP 1 Pc. .689 Anarchy Paint = 90dB
Clone Vx with a Evil Pipe .686 & Stiffi Tip Anarchy Paint = 90dB

DM 3 :
With a CP 2 Pc. .685 Anarchy Paint = 90dB
With a CP 1 Pc. .689 Anarchy Paint = 90dB
With a Evil Pipe .686 & Stiffi Tip Anarchy Paint = 90dB

Interesting Results ??

The CP barrels in my opinion are one of the louder barrels on the market, not to sure about the Evil pipe kits. I have not used one before so I can't really say.

Have you tried the stock shift kit, I bet you will find it to be pretty quiet, but the quietest and most accurate barrel I've used from all my years hands down has been the Unitech system . Single control boar and sized for the length of the barrel. The porting on the Uni tech barrels was great sound signature and shot through paint breaks with ease.

The shift kits are my second.

I've tried.quite.a few as well and it seems to me that disruptive and Lucky15 have been on the top in terms of sound. I've tried shaft 2/3, furious, CP, UL, shift, TI longbow. The stock barrel on the 2013 demon is very quiet. I'm interested in trying.the lurker barrel.

Always interested in sound data but everything being 90db sounds strange. What's the range on the meter?

I thought the same thing... It collects data from a whisper to a scream

But it's 0-110 dB with a 10 dB adjustment + or -

I'm tinkering and have other guns and barrels ... I'm just trying it out to see
Not saying its 100% scientific, but I was trying to get as close as possible.

People say the Disruptive balance barrel is one of the quietest on the market. I have yet to use it though. The stock Shift kit is very quite though.

Please note: that I was not trying to endorse any specific barrel, but was thinking MAYBE that the marker has more to do with sound signature than the barrel itself ?

But I do appreciate the suggestions, I'm no paintball sniper and not overly trying to be "stealthy"

I just have used a CP one pc for the last 10 seasons and always thought they were best bang for the buck...

I bought a eBay Barrel kit that was knocking off the shift kit, before I knew about the shift kit.. and that kit wasn't what I hoped...

I have the resources to get any kit, or individual barrel, but still havent found anything that was "better" than the CP I use.

I've seen that eBay Shift knock off. Was the machining pretty bad?

A lot of people seem to like the CF Boomstick. I personally love the Shift and it seems pretty quiet. I've used that and a Deadlywinds and they seem about similar in terms of sound level, just a little different signature.

Yeah, there were some barrel combos that were off more than others and it is just SUB-Par... Great for someone who wants a KIT for $40-50. But Ive shot Boom sticks, UL's , Stiffi's, CP, J&J, BOA, BL's, and not much of the Newer barrels in the last 10 seasons... I use my CP one piece 98% of the time.

I BYOP to my local field and like to OVER bore a little to sacrifice efficiency for Chrono consistency.

Although, I am thinking that a 2pc at the same bore as the one piece might see a "little" more consistency due to the 2 pc. design of a control bore, than a larger bore section for the 2 pc.

I suppose it's something that could be tested. I get really good consistency using a normal paint to barrel match with my Shift Kit, although most paint I'm getting right now rolls through the .681 fairly easily.

I'm one of those people who think people give too much merit to barrels though and that really the main thing it comes to is the paint. Really good paint even though what's considered a low-end barrel is still probably going to be pretty darn consistent.

I use a freak or deadlywinds and the DW is certainly quieter. I tend though to not pay too much attention to my sound, perhaps thats because I shoot a poppet so its worthless

I COMPLETELY Agree... I have shot just about every paint out there and through a bunch of barrels, (used to own a store by the Mall of America 01- 07)

The #1 truth I found is that the better the paint the better barrel performance

You can have the "Best" barrel and shoot "Crap" out and you will have crap performance.

Now , That I am a guy to tries to squeeze 100% performance out of equipment... Paint I shoot Nelson Anarchy every time I can.

My field is BYOP so the only time I shoot anything else is when I HAVE to at a local Event, and that paint is usually a step down...

Regulators, I have a PI Reg, AKA Sidewinder, and AKA 2-Ltr and I think that they are the best available... (I believe that Regs are the most important part to a marker)

I am just looking for that "Little extra" to squeeze the most out of all my gear, and there are some out there that are like minded and many who claim to be, the truth in opinion usually comes out...

I did some testing awhile ago on a "raincover" I made attached to a stiffi barrel. I tested custom barrel-disruptive-stiffi-matchstick-ccm. They were quietest to loudest in that order. Test gun was a mq valved t2 which is very quiet to begin with. If I can remember right difference was in the 10-12db range from top to bottom. That being said my gt with a disruptive is the same range as the mqt2 with the same barrel but the gt is alittle more "thudier", which was in the low 80's db range-indoor testing.

GREAT, Exactly what I was after... Thank you very much

Were you sizing your paint normal, under or over boring ?

The lurker eigenbarrels are the quietest I've ever used... it's what stays on my clone for that reason.

I use the shift kit or the deadly wind. Shift kit seems a little quieter to me and the DW makes a little more of a snap noise when shot.

Do a study with sound levels of different guns and barrel combinations. I wanted to borrow one of the DB meters when I worked at a factory but never got around to doing it.. Some of these guns have gotta be loud enough that constantly being around them has to be causing some form of hearing loss.. I know that my hearing is definitely worse since I started reffing/practicing all the time.

Yeah, I have quite the collection so I can start with quite the array. New, Old, Pumps and more...

I just didn't know if anyone did this before, and I missed it ? or Even if people were interested and I can have a video done with all of it showing the digital readouts, also I am playing with getting actual hard data in a computer program but haven't figured out how to process the data.

I was using a slight underbore. Just enought to prevent rollouts on a pump.
