If you really want to break it down and have an argument about what's conservative and liberal we can and others would have way more to say about it than me.

The big/small government has always been a stupid talking point, the left and the right both call for bigger government on some things and smaller government on others, the only people who actually want small government are the libertarians.

Seriously, the right can ***** about "big government" lefties when they stop trying to expand police powers and size to fight a massive war on drugs and trying to make the government tell people who is allowed to **** and marry.

If the GOP can be honest about their desire for "big government" when it appeals to their needs they might be better off, but I don't know.

This is a valid point. They need to come out and say that there is a necessary level of power the government ought to have, then define it. Though that is asking too much from a major political party whose existence is contingent on its ability to pander to lowest common denominator sentiments.
