I use this tuning method, and I am really happy with it.
The only difference I've made, is set my dwell at 8 ms, since it gives me a way smoother shot (this is with standard bolt and spring btw).
Downside is obviously a little worse efficiency, but I still get 10 pods+ with my setup, so as long as your consumption is not above that per game, you're golden.

Hm, and thats with the stock board? What size tank?
My dwell is at 5 and it shoots great, but still room for improvement i believe. I think im going to try upping my dwell, want my axe shooting like a spoolie

Yeah, completely standard and with a 68 LP tank (Ninja Pro without any shims in) - and my output pressure reads 145-150 PSI (depending on paint and barrel - I usually overbore slightly) when I shoot 295 FPS
I don't subscribe to the idea of lighter aftermarket bolts, as the lower weight makes the bolt move faster, which translates into hitting the ball harder (despite the gun "feeling" smoother)..... at least that's my own little theory
Shot DYE Competition Grade in Paris, in terrible weather.... and didn't break a single ball all weekend..... and this is paint that broke when dropped from knee height every time - not 8 out of 10 - every single time!
Never shot the paint before, and honestly thought I'd have problems when I did the drop test.... but no - the gun was perfect
So yeah, I recommend to anyone who does not need to shoot 10+ pods per game, to up their dwell..... mine runs at 8, some should go no higher than 7 (if I go above 8, I get consistency issues)... it depends how much the gun is broken in and how well it is maintained.
BTW, I find that cleaning and lubing the poppet makes a huge difference to the feel of the gun and the shot to shot consistency - and do it before every game.... so remember that part.
Enjoy

You lube your poppet before every game? I know you should keep your gun maintained but that's a little much....

Well, clean it before every game... which obviously means lubing it too
...when I have the time.
It does make a difference I find.... shot to shot consistency will drop from 5 FPS to 10-12 FPS if I dont.

You are lubing the inside of the bolt guide where it slides right? Give it a light coat of grease on each of the parts that you know it has smooth contact. Unless you are shooing a case a game or something I don't see how it's eating into your consistency that bad. Is it a newish gun? If not make sure the poppet oring is in good shape.

I shoot aroung 1.000 balls per point (worst case scenario, depending on the field layout).... so a game can easily be 3 cases
- and thanks, but I know how to maintain my gun dude

Lol you meant and XBall game. I thought you mean like a game as in a point or something... I was like I'm pretty sure you'll be fine with not lubing up between games (I don't really play XBall generally just regular 5-man or race to 2) but yeah between X-Ball matches I could see where that would come in handy

Yeah - game = match
Better safe than sorry, is my policy - and it's not really hurting anyting to clean and lube it before every match

I must say I was iffy about trying this but it works! I'm at 140 psi shooting 270-275 consistently. Nice job.

Hi just after getting my head round this...
Right so dwell is how long noid is open for, right?
Back cap is just how far the poppet opens controlling the amount of air that is released within that dwell, right?
High dwell and say back cap at 3/4 turns is gonna give a steady stream of air when the poppet opens as there is less room for the poppet to open and more time for the air to escape down the barrel.
Vs
Low dwell and say back cap at 1 1/2 turns which is gonna open the poppet more and let air through faster for the less time.
So wont high dwell and back cap closer in be more gentle on paint since the air isn't as harsh where as with low dwell alot more air is released at once in a shorter amount of time.
Cheers for any help,
Fishy

Yes, but your efficiency will go down in comparison. Again, people have to realize this gun was made stock to work with Ultra Evil and the likes, and thats at 200 PSI with what, 4 MS dwell? Granted it will have a slightly lower sound signature, more of a whop instead of a pop with a longer dwell.

I thought stock Dwell was 7ms. Could be wrong.

I tried this today.
I have a Boss Bolt, Medium Spring. With a DW Fibur underbored.
Set my pressure to 150, back cap all the way in. Shot five shots between each 1/4 turn out. Got to about 250 and it stayed there. Never got to 300+Ran the pressure at about 190 to hit 280, but I do think it is due to the Medium spring and it was brand new. I used to run the short spring, 1.5 turns out and at 140.....
So next time I am going to run the short spring. See if that helps out, but just thought it was a little strange.

Dehh
|
correct me if im wrong...
High dwell with low pressure for the quietest possible shots. -Sacrifice efficiency
Low dwell low pressure for the most efficient possible shots. -Sacrifice sound signature/kick
The difference between the two would be the backcap spotting.

I broke my gun. need a new bolt guide. was running 45/4500 ninja reg. Virtue board and stock bolt/spring, .684 barrel. back cap around 2 turns out, 180 psi, open dwell at 5.5 and closing at 9 (i think). got about 8 pods with that. got the lurker power pack (bolt .678 barrel, lube) and set up per instructions. wasn't where I expect. low velocity, tweaked it well enough to play but poor efficiency. fresh battery and lube and started over, w/o chrono. got it sounding ok (1 1/2 turns out open dwell 3.5, closing dwell 5 170 psi, w/out the teflon spacer and oring behind the main spring).so i shot some paint. It shot through the .678, . out of air so ill fine tune it at the field. still poor velocity and .678 too tight.ended up w pressure cranked up back cap stuck and .684. 270s and consistent but not right. new bolt guide and start over. trying to get 10 pods and consistency. any ideas? thanks
