WGP 97 Cocker Resto

Picked up a 97 WGP cocker and am hoping to bring it back to its original-basically stock look.

Here is the marker as i received it.

A quick dissassembly found that the original owner used vasaline to lube many parts.... -.- There was also a set screw missing from the 3way coupler; and TONS of paint gunk in everything.

Cleaned with isoproply, proper lubrication applied and o-rings replaced. everything reassembled. With some added parts.

Replaced hoses, planning to buff the brass to a shiny surface soon.

Re-timed it from scratch, going to sweet spot the reg tomorrow at the field and see how it shoots!

planning on stripping off all the paint and giving it a fresh coat, acquire a trigger boot, and buff any visible metal part.

have fun stripping off the annodizing, its a lot harder than just stripping paint. your removing metal when you take off anno, its not just a coating. itd be a ton easier to just paint over it.

nice find though, looks like its in great shape for being that old.

Don't paint it for the love of paintball.

You know what anodizing is, right?

It may be too pricey for this, so look into cerakoting and duracoating.

and hydrodip + clear duracoating.

is the grip frame and reg actually anodized? it seems to be chipping off like paint. the actual body has virtually no nicks in it.

Reg is anodized, frame is painted.

Does it have a ball detente? Wondering if it might be a 1996 since it has the pot metal (painted) trigger frame. 97 Cockers came from the factory with a carbon fiber trigger frame. Those are also newer (1998 through about 2002) pneumatics.

Nice cocker though...

Thanks for the info

Hmm; yea the frame is definitely metal;
It has a single ball detent. but it only holds the round until the unit cocks... then nothing.
I guess mastersconi pieced it together from different cockers? lol

the detents on a cocker arent really detents, they are there as an anti-double feed. thats why on a cocker or any other closed bolt gun you want to underbore your paint just slightly, to keep it from rolling down the barrel.

it could be pieced together, however it looks like it has what the stock parts would have been, like the composite frame and brass pneumatics.

those are most likely wrench marks on the reg, not paint chips. while those old regs work great, they can be a ***** to take apart sometimes lol.

True, but try to call them anything else and people would look at you strange. Kind of like "venturi" bolts. Not technically a venturi principle, but that is the common term.

Yes, this is more than likely pieced together. Original frame would have been carbon fiber, not the pot metal frame on this one which is 1996 and older. 1997 sledgehammer had a 3-piece body, not the newer 2-piece on this one. 1997 3-way were longer and had end caps inserted into the body held in place by c-clips. 1997 ram had a central body woth end caps threaded on where the barbs were located and had wrench flats on the nose. I am thinking the newer style pneumatics on this one came out in 1998, possibly 1999.

I copied this off of teamsection8's webpage before it was lost. I can't say for certain that any of the picture links work. It is generally pretty good for figuring out body manufacturing dates except for when its a private label.

Chart must be off. 1998s had the ramped and rounded sight rail as well as a rounded bottom edge. They still had the "cartridge-style" IVG (not the threaded body like on the 1999).

My IVG was jammed and i wasnt able to tune the reg last week. I recently fixed it and should have everything operating at maximum efficiency soon. Shot pretty nice. Ball horizontal placement was consistent, but velocity varied a ton due to the ivg/reg issue.

Got the valve out, replaced the o-ring, and lubed the pin.
Re-timed, seems to be firing much smoother now.
