Nooby G6R Questions

Hey guys. I'm looking to trade my ego x for a G6R and I just had some questions regarding maintenance and reliability and usability of the G6R.

Coming from an ego user, as many of you know, I don't have to do much maintenance on my gun except for the occasional lubing here and there and cleaning the bolt. I used to have an old Bob Long Defiant, and I know i had to keep that gun in check quite a bit. I was wondering if the G6R was the same? Do I constantly have to keep checking the pressure of it and what not?

Also, in terms of tanks, if I take out some shims on my ninja tank, would I be fine? Do I really need an SLP reg?

Thanks in advance for the help!

Just take out all the shims of the ninja and you'll be at LP. Getting an SLP will help get another 1-2 pods but that isn't necessary for it.
Keep in mind the Defiant was actually based on the BKO platform so it is not a standard intimidator in terms of function or behavior. It's going to require more maintenance by comparison to an ego but nothing outside of just routine care either after play if you've had a rather messy day or after X amount of cases.
Also it does not hurt at all to get a pressure tester. You can avoid a lot of issues with that investment just to make sure you are where you need to be.

It's about the same as your ego in terms of lubing and oiling schedule.

Personally, I found after I sweet spot my regs I will put a dot of loctite on my regs so they don't creep and don't have to keep checking them. I have found that that method works very great. There are some people here who do the same, but others who check them every time. But it doesn't take hardly any time to check them so it isn't that big of an ordeal. I just like to get my gun and get to playing as fast as possible

If you take your shims out of your ninja tank, you will be good to go. SLP is only if you want to get the absolute maximum amount of shots out of your tank. If you just have a regular ninja tank, again just remove the shims and you will be fine.

Hope this helps some.

Okay I'll look into the whole shims thing. In terms of maintenance though, what is really required more than the cleaning and lubing? I mean i understand bolt and ram but anything else I should be aware of?

for the pressure tester, are the G6R's in the same range as I would put the Defiant at? around 95 i believe

The manual will inform you of what and when to maintain your marker, as well of it's pressure range. I would advice to read it well.

The online manual for the G6R will touch on when to lube your LPR, and other little intricacies.

Each gun shipped is a little different and include a card with the pressures that were implemented with each gun and just use that as a reference as to where your pressures should be.

Well im trading for one so i dont think that ill be getting the card. And to put loctite on your lpr screw, dont you have to take it out to apply the loctite?

Oh gotcha. Well that is covered in the manual online and you can always sweet spot them with one of a few methods covered in this forum.

The way I did it was remove the screw and just use very little loctite on it and just set the LPR and left it. The next time I took it out there wasn't any reg creep or screw backing out and has stayed that way for a while, but if I ever need to adjust that screw I can easily break the loctite and twist it.

Like I said, just the way I do things, some people like I said check theirs every time they play.

I would read the guides for ways to set your lpr (bob has a sweetspotting technique, i think lurker does, and the famous youtube paintball guy who cant be named also does).

broken in g6rs will chop like a mother****er in cold weather if you do the cookie cutter settings. Remember these guns are made in cali and tested there. if your playing in nova scotia you probally want to drop that lpr and up the dwell.

Unless your marker's eyes are freezing in the cold then it won't chop. Barrel breaks how ever are different, and are usually caused by high HPR setting, or simply brittle paint. Be sure you know the difference..

Neither are permanent, but red is unnecessary and would seize the screw in place unless heated up.

Use blue, though loctite isn't really needed at all.

to be honest if you dont have any older mechanical markers or old electros then there is a good chance you can use the slp reg on all them. if your not sure how your guns will run with an slp reg then i would suggest sticking with the adjustable reg and just removing all the shims

Then yes, you can switch regs between the 2 types without worry. Just make sure you know which is which, but the SLP is usually labeled so you don't have to worry about that either.
