Human Shield?
so, while reffing woodsball today, I went to paintcheck a kid. Right after I finish the check and call him clean, he follows me while I go back to reffing the other team. I was completely unaware of it until I was near the other team. He grabs the back of my jersey, pushes me forward and the other team start lighting me up across the upper chest and neck. I try to throw him off and tell him it's kind of against the rules, but what I really want to do is punch his *** in the face and tell him he's out. He ultimately gets shot in the back, but still doesn't call himself out. Has this ever happened to anyone? If so, how am I supposed to deal with stuff like this?

HOLY ****!!! How did you not knock him out??? The worse that has happen to me was that some kid was trying to run behind me. When i was going to paint check another guy on the opposite team. I noticed it so i hit the floor and rolled to the side really quick next thing you know he got light up. But i would have grabbed his *** and sat him out until the match was over and taken him to my boss. If i am with another reff i would radio in my partner to let him know i have to handle an issue and dragged his *** over to my boss immediately and get him kicked or out of a game or 2.

I've never had that happened, but if anything like that was ever attempted I would not hesitate in sending him home and giving him a field ban. No player has any place putting a single finger on a ref, much less being put into harms way. That player would never be welcome back to the fields.

Ive had people use me as cover but never to that extent. Definitely would have sat him out at least a game. Also, you have to go to your boss to set someone out a game?

I just try to watch the crossfire as best as possible and move often. That way I don't become a human shield. If I see someone trying to do it, I move the opposite way he is going

Deliberate contact with a ref (other than a friendly handshake, high-five, etc) should be grounds for getting tossed from the game, and probably from the field.

Grow some balls and eject the next player who touches you like that.

I would suspend him from future games. I would report this person to the boss as well. This is undermining your safety as a referee. The person should not be using physical contact on you in anyway and by throwing you out in front of a fire fight is even worst. Remember that physical violence is not a good idea because your are working and the idea is to be professionally, but you should not tolerate that kind of stuff.

I'd have grabbed him by the shirt and pulled him out from cover while everyone was shooting you. And then, when he got hit, If he didn't call himself out, I'd take the gun from him and tell to sit out next game.

I was going to say this, except I would have tossed him from the field.
Friends might do this as a trick, but it would be a jersey grab, then a nudge to give the idea of doing this, and even then, it would only be in a game with other friends who would laugh as well. I don't know anyone who would have done this for real.

you shouldnt be touched at all. and as far as him using you to sheild him. i'd call him out on the spot. now my field is mostly newbies. so i give them the benifit of the doubt. but i do explain if they are behind me and i get hit i will call them out

I have never had this sort of thing happen. on a paintball field lol..
Anyways I would out of reacting turned and use my 30 minutes of kickboxing...(what im fat) but I honestly shouldn't... I would instantly eject the player... It is uncalled for. Besides there should be a rule in your orientation no physical contact

I've used refs and dead players as human sheilds before. I would never grab them, but if you are walking in the middle of a fire fight I'm going to take advantage of it and move up to my next position. There's no rule against it.
