camera protection on the field!!!

hey so i was trying to look around to find out what people do to protect their cameras and video cameras when their out on the field. i have a nikon D5000 and am getting a sony video camera and id like some fairly cheap ideas on how to protect my goods from getting shot. i've been taking the risk for the past couple years with my nikon but one of my buddies who brought his camera out this past weekend got it shot and it complete broke the whole camera, and i REALLY dont want that to happen! so if you guys have any ideas could ya help me out!! thanks alot guys!

Just get a bunch of boxes and experiment, make different designs and see which works better.

get a water bag for it

I wouldn't expect a paintball to do terribly much damage to a nicer camera, as I've subjected my 5Dii to way, way, way worse without any kind of protection, but if you're paranoid, the bag would be more than enough unless someone point-blanks your camera.

Here is a build thread for my ZoomCam, you can build it without the mounting part, and carry it around, and it will protect your camcorder from hits no problem. Just turn it on before the game, and leave it closed up while they are playing. Cost of parts is around $20.

You can leave the side door clear plexi so you can see the viewfinder when you look at the side.

I've taken tons of hits to this with no problems, just check the lens plexi after every game, as a single smudge of paint will ruin your footage.
