I spoke with Geoff today and he will be updating the PSP Official field layout for me to put in the next release of the general rules.
The current diagram is a throwback from the "old" NXL rulebook and needs to be updated for clarity purposes anyway.
When Geoff finishes the updated layout, we'll most likely post it here as well - thus addressing the grid issue of 12' or 12.5' increments (Boogie!!)

I've sent Tim the updated drawing. I'm sure he will post it once he has a chance to go over it.

How did you come up with that? If the field is 120ft wide, then the lines would be increments of 12ft. If the field is 125ft wide, then the lines are increments of 12.5ft

Ok so now I'm totally confused. I'm pretty good with math and can figure out how to divide the width of the field by the number of grid boxes. Can someone who actually knows the answer, (Tim, Geoff, Lane, Santa) confirm the actual length and width of the field for 2008? Is it 125x150 or 120x150? Thanks.

Alright.. The field dimensons are 120' X 150'.... But the grid is still made the old way 125' X 150' all you lose is 2.5' on each tape line.

ok, thanks for confirmation. all inner grids are 12.5 in width, the only thing that changes are the outer grids which are 10 by 10, and not 10 by 12.5

Please update this thread PSP judges
Im looking at the 2012 rules last page of the rule book shows a layout (page 25 in the actual document PDF)
If I am reading this correctly:
-- The safety zone for netting is 140' width by 190' length
-- The playable area of "in-bounds" is 120' width by 170' length
-- The outer grids marked are in 10' size running length top to bottom of the playable area.
-- Starting inside those 10' grids are 12.5' grids running width wise
So here are the questions concering the outlined details in the rules looking at the field layout as well:
-- The dead box should be "in-bounds" and is not on the layout: where does it go?
-- If the dead box it "in-bounds" but not on the actual layout of the field grid, that would mean the safety netting needs to be bumped out to accomodate the "recommended 10' minimum spacing from "boundary lines" to safety netting: where is that adjustment made?
-- The "pit" for each team: entrance and exit off the safety zone I assume. Is there a requirement for lateral entrance? meaning,.. does the entrance face the teams back boundary or not?
-- What about methods for restricting non-player personel from entering the "pit"? how does the event staff get that enforced?

Excuse my ignorance, but technically speaking a psp layout is 170 x120. 150x120 is obviously correct to include all the bunkers but is not the entire "in bounds" area. Am I thinking about this wrong? maybe so. if the actual playing field were 150x120 then anyone playing the back row would be out of bounds.

My question why is a two year old thread being bumped???
The playing area is 170x120....including the netting and everything it is 190x140...dead boxes are in bounds because they are placed on the "out of bounds line" therefore making it in bounds, I don't believe stepping on the line is out of bounds but actually travelling over it. Then again they're hardly using OOB lines anymore and usually it is just more than 5 feet from the tape bunkers is considered out of bounds.

The line itself is out of bounds. If you step on the line, you are out.
Quote:
3.2.3. The edge of the in-bounds area will be marked by a boundary line. The boundary line and
any object or ground outside of the boundary line is out-of-bounds.

Well I know most ref's are forgiving enough to realize sometimes your first step off the break may be out of bounds but as long as you are making in bound progress during your run then it is acceptable.

Love how you throw the jab in the conversation and then participate.
It was either search out the answer on the forum in an existing thread and ask it for clarification or make an entirely new thread and duplicate the same conversation all over again only to have someone point out that this information is already on the forum and link everyone back to an old thread..... Again.
Three people have chimed in asking for more questions and clarification so I'm going to say the thread is valid in being dug back up.
So.... Anyways.... I'm making a practice field and I would like to build it to the event specifications.
Thanks!
