Pumps are better in the fact that you can take a bath with your marker...

bingo. or maybe masturbation made us all good at pump?
there both fun. i find it significantly more rewarding to pop off one shot and drop an electro guy who just shot 50 at me.

This.
I view the various styles of paintball markers as simply different tools for different jobs. I won't try to close down a lane or be a back player with my pump gun -- that's what my electro is for. Instead, I'll take advantage of my pump gun's lightness and get up close and snapshoot. Since I can't shoot very fast with it, I don't need to carry much paint, which allows me to move more quickly.
Last weekend I was forced to use VERY crappy field paint (most balls had at least 2 dimples in them), so I didn't even attempt to use the pump gun. I found that my mech cocker was a real nice compromise in terms of putting enough innaccurate fire out there to get eliminations without discouraging my inexperienced opponents through the sheer onslaught of my electro.
Different tools for different jobs.

yes and no.
it comes down to playstyle and where you are playing.
rec ball/woodsball is great to play pump, save money on paint and perfect your skills. but you an also take an electronic marker, put a tiny hopper or handfeed, and one ball and have the same effect.the markers are equal and
my opinion is that skill will outplay gear 9 times out of 10. find the gear you enjoy.

Pump guns are, IMO, way more fun to use. They're also cheaper, lighter, and you get way more bragging rights eliminating someone with a pump than with an electro.

When I play pump, I get to sing my "I like making people waste their paint song", as I am singing this I stick only a little of my head out, resorting in people dumping tens if not hundreds of paintballs at me. If I see one heading for me I pop in, if I see someone stick out a little further than they should I stick out the barrel of my phantom and one ball them, can't do that with a hopper on top of a gun!

Where does this fall???
I like them both.
I like electro's when I feel like being very aggressive, and quantity over quality
I like Mechanical when I am in the middle, I do like my cockers and automag
And pumps when I want to work on my fieldwork, and quality over quantity.
I find when I don't rotate through my mechanical and pumps and use my electronic paintball tossers for a month or more straight, my play does start to suffer and stagnate.

Depending who I play with and the field. If everyones using tippmanns and were playing woodsball/rec , I find pump more rewarding and love to play "stealth" with the light gear. Playing with kids that love to bonus ball , Ill play electro
I find it all depends on your style. I like to change it up so I also change up markers
