1. You're going to want a real graphics card.
2. You're going to want Intel.
3. We have a thread specifically for building/upgrading advice in ST:T.

You don't have to get an Intel, amd makes good products if you're on a budget.

You don't need to go Intel.
You do, however, absolutely need a dedicated graphics card if you want to play any game that has come out since 2005.

If you're just playing LoL and Dota you don't need a gaming rig. Just buy a decent i3 laptop.

Not very good advice. Most of the time you're eventually going to want to buy more games and play more games. Then you'll be limited to what your laptop can run and have to build a desktop anyways.

With the costs of SSDs now, there's no reason not to buy one. $60-70 for 128gb.

I can vouch for APU's. I took a chance on the A6 when buying my laptop and it has dominated every game I have ever thrown at it. No regrets here. So although it is not a dedicated card, it is the next best thing and he will still be able to run games great!!

Dominated every game on what setting? I think you have the word dominated confused with beaten by.

APU are powerful for a cheap "gaming" setup or a home theater pc.
You can also add a ATI graphics to run in crossfire with your apu
