Working on the VX next week and I will test the GT bolt in it.

If we decide to take the spring out, will it perform like stock again?
Yes

What are we looking for average turn around time?
Always only one day
cant wait for this!!

Nice! Very first person to know that song in my intro. Must be a fellow radio head fan to know that one

okay so this WILL work in the GT? Any efficiency numbers when running the dwell at 8?

theoretically shouldn't this allow you to lower the reg pressure?

I would be interested in picking up a modded valve and bolt when you have them available.

How is this a "non permanent" mod if it requires two components to be machined?

Is there any ill affect to running the marker without the spring in the bolt engine with the machined components on stock board settings?

The way I understand is you can go from spring to no spring just up the dwell.

This may help with efficiency, though I don't think really for the reason you're stating. Because the bolt is designed to cut off air flow when it's forward (as opposed to continually venting air), lowering your dwell really doesn't do anything. For example, let's assume that 10ms is long enough to dump the entire valve chamber; setting your dwell higher than 10ms doesn't make your gun less efficient, it only lengthens how long it takes the bolt to fully cycle. If you lower it below 10ms, you're not dumping the valve chamber fully, which means some shots you'll dump more than others.

What the spring does do is push the bolt forward faster allowing for the air that's in the valve chamber to hit the ball at once, as opposed to gradually. Because you have a spring and no LPR, you may have to keep the pressure a bit higher (you have to have enough force to push the spring back), so lowering your pressure may or may not work out depending on bolt fit and the spring tension. Next best thing? Lower the dwell. By lowering the dwell you'll be preventing the dump chamber from fully venting, which as I mentioned may affect shot-to-shot consistency. Being that I've seen people say their marker is really consistent shooting +- 8 (ie. 282 - 298), I don't think it'll be a huge deal; I just would be surprised if someone were shooting +- 1 with it, though perhaps I'm entirely wrong here on consistency.

Now if you can use up some of the space in the valve chamber so it has less volume, then the dump chamber would be more likely to empty each shot and you might see better consistency that way.

I can't think of how this would do any appreciable amount of wear / damage to the detents. At the end of the day, the bolt will go forward pushing the detents back. Being that springs "wear" by being used, technically this will cause more wear than an unsprung bolt. Of course, for this to be an issue, you have to be ignoring the fact that you're wearing on the springs every time you shoot and you're probably doing that 2,000+ times every time you play. I'd say detent wear is a non-issue.

I'd say is permanent in that you can't unmachine the parts, but I believe he's milling out excess metal that shouldn't have an effect the function of the marker in any other way.

The metal removed from the mod is not needed material. So once you remove the spring your back to the same setup you had before. Maybe non permament mod is not the correct term. But either way, remove the spring and your back to stock.

At a lower dwell your cutting the air off that is stored in the GT. Thats why you get a drop in fps when you lower your dwell. But the spring picks up for that at the lower end of the settings. Same pressure hitting the ball and same input pressure at a lower dwell setting. I would rather film a video showing results then having a debat for sure on pressures, impact speed, the weather, moon position, and such. Thats really my direction from now on. lol

I do plan to film a pod count video soon. But I already know 3-4 guys might get this done before me. So a video will be posted soon.

FANTASTIC. Thanks for all of the answers Militia.

How long do I need to send my bolt out for to get this done?

Eric posted in the Facebook it will void your whole drive train warranty. Other pieces would be able to still get the warranty.

Also pooty is looking to order bolts and valves so you wouldn't have to void your warranty but that isn't official yet.

It will only void your bolt and valve. But honestly I don’t think Macdev is that kind of company that it would point to a part that didn’t effect your guns problem only because it was modded. If the mod was a permanent mod then that’s another story and I would understand that. A gun tech simply needs to remove the spring to bring it back to stock and go from there if he thinks its spring related.

Let's also be honest, how many bolts and valves are replaced under warranty to begin with? I'd have to go with a big "none" on that one.
