Minimum Pressure/Velocity to fire a paintball

Made this graph out of curiosity and thought it was interesting and wanted to share it.
I don't have all of the math, but it's mostly just conversions.

this would appear to be an exponential function graphed in excel

I'm not sure what this is based upon. The minimum force to move a paintball would be the force to overcome the static friction, normal force, weight, and other factors.

all you did was compare
well I can't really tell what that volume is based on

No, this is the minimum energy needed to fire a paintball, not the force. Pressure times volume equals energy (ideal gas law).

This is assuming zero friction between the bolt and the breech as well as between air molecules. Hence, the "minimum."

BTW, normal force and weight are negligible factors in a paintball gun.

Why don't you just use van deer waals equation of state and do it properly? Also

P*V = nRT which isn't the energy however you could use pressure DV for the work. Physical chemist here.

Oh yeah, I could use the Van Der Waals. Didn't think of that.

Also, I went back and Googled the ideal gas law to make sure, and yeah, you're right, PV is not energy. But I found that 3/2 PV is. Is that the "D" you're talking about?

dV is what I meant as in the change in volume. The problem would be that the pressure decreases as the volume increases. For science.
