I got in by working at my local out door rec. I ended up having to ref the games and wasn't to happy about it. Eventually my boss let me play a few with a rental and i loved it. Offered me to get gear at a discount package and I officially caught the bug.
Specifically, Duke Nukem 3d and Quake. (there's an interesting discussion possibility about the correlation between the look of the current video game hero and the desired look of the incoming new paintball player, just something to think about)
Back in college in the computer lab between classes we'd have multiplayer games going pretty much non-stop, except when there was a class in the lab. Internet multiplayer was a thing, but with the slow modem of the day it didn't compare to a proper LAN game. We regular players in the lab all became pretty good friends. One player talked about the one time he played paintball and we all thought it sounded like a good idea. However, we were all broke college students. A major road trip or expensive gear investment was out of the question. Fortunately Brass Eagle had just made their big push into the big box stores. A bunch of Stingray II purchases later (and mask purchases as well, we weren't stupid), and we were having bi-monthly games in a friends back yard. A new field opened near by and things snowballed from there.
It started when i was about 8 years old, i would walk back in the woods in my neighborhood and find paintballs over the place where the older kids in the neighborhood played. Forgot about it for a while and was eventually handed a flyer about a field to play at. Gathered a couple friends, 2 of them had played before and went out to field about 30minutes away. Instantly hooked!
Man o man, I think a friend from California moved to town and mentioned playing, so we found some guns, maybe rented them, and played in a field. I found a VHA paintball in Greer SC and went there a few weeks later, the rest is history. That was back in 1993 or there abouts.
Got invited to my friend's birthday, got sick and couldn't go but all my friends who went said it was the best thing ever so it was hyped up for me. Ended up going for another friend's birthday (think we were 11 or 12 at the time) and got my first gun later that year for my birthday.
After 9 years I am the only one out of those guys who still plays.
This line is in remembrance of Jared Wilson, friend and paintball teammate who died on 7/27/2005. My Old Feedback +1/-0 | CCM T2 | OLED G6R | Entertaining Offers for either/both
Me and my friends started with water guns doing what we called the water wars. Once we were old enough to buy paintball stuff we moved up to paintball. We played in some woods by one of my friend's house and the rest is history.
