This thread is just a quick run-through of what I did to get a domeless back-cap on an X-93. I could get more of these done, but I don't have a surplus of Image rear plugs.
I started off with a standard Image/Black/v1/v2/red/blue back plug. Any will work, with exception to Vegard's "Ripper" Matrix with the smaller bolt.
Come to think of it, the Slam would probably work too... go cut one up for yourself. Don't actually do that.
The first thing I had done was have everything but the threads removed. You can use a grinder, but for the cleanest results, you might want to try a lathe. I have three threads remaining on mine, with two showing on the body when it's all the way screwed in, so you could probably leave five or so threads on the back cap.
The next thing is to drill a 1/2" hole in the center of the new plug. You can do this by widening the existing hex-key hole in the center of the stock back plug.
After that, drill two smaller holes that are co-linear with the new half-inch hole. These will be used with needle-nosed pliers to remove the bolt, so make sure they are large enough to fit.
I personally use the stock X-93 backplate. You could use a stock back plate, but you will need to drill another half-inch hole in it for the bolt to fully cycle.
I personally didn't do this myself. I had it taken to a machinist. Certain things got lost in translation, I suppose. If I could do it over, I'd leave one or two more threads on the new plug. I'd also drill the holes for the needle-nose pliers a little wider, so the pliers can hold it more securely.
