the biggest hurdle for your first tournament is nerves. my first tournament in six years was also the one of my teammates first tournaments. we let nerves get the best of us and lost our first three games but made a comeback and made it past the prelims. If not for nerves at the start we would have finished a lot better.

Oh man, I remember my first tournament. It was a 3-man beginner at our home field. My best friend and I and the captains girlfriend made up our team. She got out off the break almost every game. Though, we never lost a game. My buddy and I 2v3'd each team and took our very first tournament. Oh man did it feel great!

Local tournaments, usually 3 v 3. But Division 5 is the lowest division.

Its important to carb up the day before.
Each muscle cell has storage reserves called glycogen, what powers fast twitch type 2 muscle that moves the body quickly. When you eat something, the body turns the starch into glucose (or if its protein into amino acids and fat goes in later). It turns bread, oatmeal, anything starchy into blood glucose, a sugar. This enters the bloodstream and the excess (above a certain concentration, about 80mg/dl) the body likes to rid itself of as it harms cells to have blood sugar too high. Insulin shuttles this excess sugar into cells where its put into glycogen (and muscle repair for those who weight lift).
This insulin inhibits adrenalin, the hormone responsible for increasing energy, lipolysis (fat cells dump their stores into the blood stream for burning), increased heart rate, and a whole other host of effects. Since insulin response happens when you eat, its not good to eat during a day of high stress paintball. A meal takes an hour or two to digest, so that much time is needed from a high energy activity and there isn't enough down time in a tournament day. Thankfully, the body is perfectly designed for this situation. Glycogen reserves can be topped off like a gas tank and the next day the energy is still in the muscles. The only glycogen starting to deplete is liver glycogen and that won't matter as you'll be operating on mostly fat during the day as adrenaline causes release of fat from the fat cells. The walking around and light activity will be the type 1 muscle using fat/triglycerides as energy, and the change of direction and quick movements will be using up your glycogen reserves which you topped off the day earlier since you read this This is basically the principle of intermittent fasting, a popular diet in the exercise community.

You don't split the paint fairly, you split the cost of the whole team's paint evenly, and the players that need more paint to play their position properly just get more paint.
