Do I feel like a wuss? No. What I feel is less pain and I get marked less. Win, win in my IMHO.

If nothing else, I would highly recommend some quality paintball pants. The area I always worry the most about is my crotch to be honest and I hate wearing a cup. Either way, I recommend the pants before all else.

I'm sure he has gone playing by now. But, he also might still be unsure of himself as far as padding goes. He may still be wearing it and he may not be.
Obviously, it would be nice if the OP would update the thread as well so we know what he decided to do along with his thoughts on our replies.

"Necro posting" is a new one for me. I like it though. Permission to reuse?

Thanks Mom, but a lively and valid discussion is always a good thing especially for other new players clicking on this thread.
IMO padding is great, remember the balls are traveling at ~300FPS so that is no joke. Just wear something that creates a good balance between comfort and protection.

I play speedball every weekend. Between sliding/diving, bunkering, and being bunkered I think padding is necessary.

One of the nicest sets of shorts I've found are the Nike Pro Combat ones. technically made for basketball, the tailbone strip of padding is nice for those turf fields where you might slip and bust your ***.
