Clone advice
Hey what's up guys, I was considering buying a clone and was wondering if anyone had any advice as to what version is a safe bet (reliability wise)? I was looking around and for some reason the v1's and v2's seem a hell of alot cheaper then the VX's. I know about some of the issues the v1's had so they are most likely out of the equation but does anyone have any input on how reliable the v2's are? I know you can get the VX drive train installed (VX'ed) but do most of the v2's have the vx reg and feedneck?
Thanks ahead of time for any help,
-Mike

The VX'd clones are likely going to be the best overall value, but very rarely do you see them have the VX feedneck and reg.
If you end up with a V2 or a VX'd, just make sure that it has (or you upgrade to once you get it) the gold bolt and the green VX detents as those 2 upgrades are very worthwhile.
I've seen some true VX's for really reasonable prices so definitely don't rule those out if you can hunt one down in your price range.

Thanks man, just out of curiosity what would you call a reasonable price for a vx? Because I seem to see them listed anywhere from $800 - $650.

Yeah I mean there is definitely going to be a range based on the condition of the marker. I've seen some go for as low as 550 - 600 for ones that are a bit beat, to in the 7's for ones pretty nice shape.

Droids are amazing, no doubt. It is where my love of Macdev originated.
I actually still run a V2 Clone that is fully broken in, and it hangs with vx or even GT's for smoothness if not for efficiency.
I will most likely have a GT before the end of the year though.

A properly VX'd Clone will not be much different performance wise as a true VX and will probably give you the best bang for your buck. A lot of guys prefer the feedneck of the earlier Clones to the VX. I personally do not have a problem with my VX feedneck. It is all preference. Also, you have more color options for an earlier Clone vs the VX. The VX only comes in a few colors and some aren't crazy about them. Mine is Gold/Black and I love it .
Depending on your budget I would place the Clones in order: GT, VX, then VX'd, unless you preferred the other colors and feedneck. Then I would switch it to GT, VX'd, VX.
Like Mark said, just make sure the VX'd has all the upgrades (gold bolt, detents, etc.)

The OP has owned a ranjerz droid... I know because I traded him an ego7 + cash for it.
The only real issue with the V1s is that they shredded orings. The V2s were supposedly the fix to it, however, I don't know a way of looking at them and telling them apart. It is also very uncommon to see a VX reg on a V2, but I'm not sure there's a notable difference. I actually use a PE SL3 reg on my VX'd clone and love it.

IMO the MacDev regs are the absolute best available. By far the most consistent I have ever used. I would never dream of putting any other reg on my VX. That's just me.

The VX Reg is really nice. The SL3 is also really nice.
Probably personal preference
P.S. Were you at brew city today? Next time you are out there you can test out my VX (or buy it so I can get my GT )

I play at a different field almost every time out and constantly need to change my pressure. The gladiator bottomworks are extremely sensitive and are a pain to adjust in fine increments. The bottom portion of the reg, namely the reg seat and adjustment screw, have been a source or heartburn for several people I know. They strip easily and the reg seat is kind of sensitive to dirt (hence the filter). The LP SL3 reg on the other hand has a great adjustment sensitivity, the reg seat is flippable (and available at almost any proshop), it is consistent and in typical PE fashion it is bullet proof. The clone is an amazing gun, but for me I feel like the SL3 takes care of the weak link.
