Labor Secretary Solis Misleads on Jobs Revisions

Suspicion about the federal government's September jobs report has fallen on Secretary of Labor Hilda Solis, who appeared on CNBC this morning and defended the numbers from the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS), claiming--falsely--that upward revisions of 86,000 jobs were from the private sector. In fact, the new number is entirely accounted for by upwards revisions to state and federal government payrolls.

The BLS reported that while only 114,000 jobs were created in September--which would have translated into a rise in unemployment from 8.1% to 8.2%--the unemployment rate fell dramatically to 7.8%. That unusual drop is the fastest in nearly three decades, and was unexpected even in the rosiest predictions.

One reason for the rise was an upward revision of 86,000 to the July and August jobs numbers--all of which came from a 91,000 increase in the estimate of public sector jobs. Private sector job estimates were actually revised downward by 5,000.

In addition, the BLS reported a large rise in the number of part-time jobs, adding 600,000 jobs to the total--a dramatic increase of 7.5%, not explained by any other economic indicators--and raising questions about whether the government had changed the way it counted part-time workers.

The GOP will lose this election. Then a small minority will probably stick to the extremist path but the majority will jump ship. While losing voters and money, the extremist ideals will give way to more moderate reasonable ones and the party will be viable again by the election after next.

People don't change their views because a different party gets elected. This isn't a sports game, people don't pick teams because they win, they pick based on how they compare to their own beliefs. You obviously wouldn't understand this concept, because you only believe whatever the democrats tell you to believe.
Also, adding trillions to the debt and engaging in multiple wars is not a reasonable ideal. Sorry to break it to you.

The GOP is the extremist. There is no arguing that. Secondly, people do and will drop parties that become nonviable. It's basic political science and the driving principle behind duverger's law.

But I'm not wasting my time on someone who is clearly just blake's new trolling account. So I'm done.

Actually that's called an opinion, so you can't say there is no arguing it.
For someone who doesn't know the difference between an opinion and fact, you act like you're an expert. Pretty ironic.
Secondly, democrats had a four term president and it's pretty obvious the GOP didn't die as a result from that. Maybe you should read up on your history. But you think Obama will kill the GOP when he hasn't even completed a single term. LOL and if you didn't here, Romney is even polling higher than him now. There goes your laughable argument.

Judging by the traffic, I think they lowballed the job numbers. Traffic is worse now than it was during the so called golden years of the Bush era. Am I supposed to believe that people get up a 5am just to drive around?

From my lab I can see 4 active multimillion dollar construction projects for multilevel Office and lab space by the following companies: Google, Biogen, Pfizer, and AstraZenica. In addition they have cleared 2 city blocks for more buildings (lab space I think, but I don't know who owns it.). On the other side of the building that i cant see there is a giant construction project for Novartis it takes up 2 blocks. It's around 1/2 mile away. Long story short, within a mile of my work there is hundreds of millions in construction to make lab and office space for thousands of workers.

Yup, we're in a recession. The sky is falling.

Then why is traffic worse now than it was while unemployment was supposedly in the low 4s? It sure looks like more people are working to me. I get weekly calls from recruiters. The construction workers are very busy around me. If what the economists are saying is true than the sky should be falling. According to political ads and fox that uses their numbers there are less jobs now than during Bush. I don't buy it.

Google is having such a hard time getting good software engineers that they buy startups for the employees and throw out the product. They're not the only ones. Amazon did the same thing a couple of times last year. The wall street journal did an article on this new trend.

There's an old saying, "we keep economists around to make the weather men look good.". Clearly they can't even tell me the economic weather right now.

I hope the GOP fractures into two parties, it seems that's the only way a third party is going to gain traction. Politicians who are currently in power need to decide they've had enough, there's too much inertia from the top to create a third party from the outside.

Last time I heard a statement similar to that, GWB won two consecutive terms. Liberals can never hold it together as evidenced by the HOR. Change is slow.
