Do I really need a front to my freak barrel?

So I read the information on the paintball barrel and how the length doesn't matter as much. So the freak back is about 5" long and has about 1" threads after the insert.

I tried shooting a pod with just the back and insert and it worked fine at 20'. I had to aim higher at 60' but I still got the accuracy I was looking for.

Anyone play without the freak front?

Is there any damage that can happen from not having a front tip?

Barrel tip will quiet the shot down, tremendously. It should also help efficiency and consistency between shots.

Really I'm looking for a SMALL barrel (less than 10") and thought, why put on my 5" tip. The freak back is as long as I wanted but I now see that if I slide into a bunker, get my tip into mud, or have a bunker rash that it can get into the front of the freak.

the tip keeps the insert seated properly. you dont need the length of a full tip but you do need something to keep the insert seated.

WWA used to make little nub fronts for Freak barrels, you should call them before trying to order off their website. I'm sure you could find them floating around used, too.
