That's the point.
its not that they bought in. no one cares if established teams or players buy in.
Its that they are unprepared. Vendetta has no established pros, but carries many former DBS sports (D1) players.
you cant have your cake and eat it it too. you either need to earn your way in though D1, or anyone can buy thier way in. And people going to criticize their effort? their will to compete? their heart? you can question their skill and decisions. it was evident that it isnt there... But no one should question their gall. 99% of teams or players havent even tried to do what they did.

Its a nasty double standard. teams that buy in shouldnt do it. unless they can.. or rather the general public thinks they can?
Give a little bit of credit to the fact they they wanted to step up and see if they can hang. They couldnt, but I think that balls deserves some respect.

Mad respect from me for these cats... I only can hope I get the opportunity to face those same teams they did this past weekend.

EDIT:

I think these guys deserve everyone respect. they played a tournament likely knowing they were about to get ****stomped. going somewhere where few had ever gone. And they did it in spite of that. they took thier lumps, cleaned up and went out there anyway.

Getting blown out twice and sent home with your tail between your legs is a "good job"?

This isn't tee-ball for 5 year olds, you don't get a trophy for "participation"... (which shouldn't even happen, for that matter)

Actually it is turning into that. if not mistaken they gave out wood plaques for participation this event.

Yes they gave engraved plaques to all teams who entered(1 per team) but from what I saw it seemed more of a marketing move from the company doing the plaques.

And yes I think they did a pretty good job, as the announcers on the web cast said it seemed their major problem was teamwork, which is to be expected from a newer team in their first major event. They had a few players who didnt communicate as well as they could have and then they started to get major penalties which is another mistake practice and teamwork will help resolve.

No one is saying they dont have a lot of work to do, but they sure did try.

They looked great in their opening breakout but I think that after that first loss the gravity of the situation set in and they got a little psyched out. Either way I'm looking forward to watching these guys play again. I like underdogs.

Wasn't 4 of the Heat guys on the Aftershock roster that won Vegas last year? Anyone know?

I was talking about Heat's first 7-man event. You know, the one they just played in Vegas.

I think it is great that so much of the paintball community is supportive of a new team. It's great that they already have fans here. It's even more fantastic that the other professional players were helpful and welcoming. Having said that, winning only one point in the whole event is nothing short of a dismal start. And that one point was when they got to play 7 on 5. It will be a hard road to even making this team competitive. It's not impossible, but they have a long way to go to prove they belong in the professional division.

However, comparing this new team to Heat is silly. Heat is rife with some of the best veteran players in the game today and they have been a force in the PSP this year. I think they would have had a much different result with their Russians and Chad George.

At the end of the day both teams were 0-4 on the scoreline. Heat had 4? Or so players that won the event the year previous and Contact had never played a tournament together.

I agree, I was just trying to draw a parallel to make a point: You can't expect to be considered a "pro-caliber team" by buying your way in. Pro-level teamwork and communication is something that takes years to hone. It's an artform; a science. Contact should've been relegated to D1 or "semi-pro" status until they deserved the spot they ended up buying.

Take a team you've built and go scrim Contact, post results. Its easier to talk from your computer chair than it is to go out there and play.

Why is everyone so up in arms about a team moving up to the "PRO" bracket...how does it effect you? I mean it seams strange so many people trash talk a group doing what they feel is best for their team. If your team wants to step up do it! Compete at the highest level.

This is not the NFL/MLB/NHL where most start at a certain point and pro teams draft them. it is not nor will it ever be the same.

get over it let them do their thing and support OUR sport.

The difference is that he isn't trying to enter a team in the professional ranks.

There's should be a vast skill difference between a fan and a professional player. Just because I would get curb stomped at football doesn't mean I am not a fan of the NFL and would be real sad to see rank amateurs allowed to have a team. No offense to any Buffalo Bills fans. Most of us here are fans of professional paintball so of course people will make comparisons to other pro sports.

We can all support the sport without being fans of every single team. Part of the fun of watching sports is rooting for and even against teams. It doesn't mean you dislike the sport when you don't agree a specific team doesn't belong in the division. In fact, the argument could be made that you are upholding it as a pro sport by saying there should be standards.
