It's significant because it is being used to test a new space suit capable of withstanding re-entry pressure from our atmosphere. It's important because assuming that the free-fall goes well, this has the potential to greatly improve Astronaut safety in the event of an emergency during re-entry. Imagine the additional missions we could undergo and the risks we could take if we could add additional insurance towards the life of our Astronauts.
I think it’s actually really cool, and an important moment in space exploration. Red Bull's just involved for the publicity and marketing side of it.
