What's so bad about Spyders?

I'm making this because I'm tired of hearing people rip on Spyder. What's so bad about them ? I have had one before and I never had a problem. I would really like to know what's do bad about them. I have been playing half of a year but this just annoys me what's so had about them?

There is absolutely nothing wrong with Spyders. They are great budget/beginner guns. I have owned my fair share of Spyders and I never had a problem with them. They are reliable and will make a great rec gun. They are not, however, tournament ready. They lack the electronics/mechanics to stand up with the range of $800+ guns that are used in tournament play. There is a reason you can buy a Spyder for less than $300 where a marker like my Clone will run you between $1,200 and $1,500 new. They are just in a different class. If you mainly play rec ball then the Spyder will be fine for you. If you are wanting to play tournaments, use the Spyder for a while and upgrade as soon as you can. Don't feel like you have to spend over a grand on a new gun though. There are tournament ready guns available for $350-$500.

This is precisely what Spyders are...ow level budget/beginner markers. They are decent but leave much to be desired in terms of performance.
The ragging usually comparisons people try to make between Spyders and higher level markers or from people who have higher level markers that seem to like to look down on lesser markers.

In my experience, the players with expensive markers that look down on Spyders are the ones that had parents who bought them a $500+ marker for their very first gun. The ones like me who bought their first gun with a teenage allowance that could only afford a Tippmann or a Spyder appreciate them for what they are. Great, reliable, and budget friendly markers that are designed to get people interested in the sport.

Obviously there are also players that could afford an expensive first marker who also appreciate the lower ends.

They're cheap.

No, really.

That and I guess proprietary ASA, barrel threads and feedneck kinda do it.

People in paintball are just like people in any other sector Of life. There are preconceived and popularized notions that everyone too afraid to venture out or take the time and energy necessary to experience something new wil have and they cling onto those ideas like they know why its so from first habd experience.

In a nut shell they are great for what they do. That is get people into the sport. They do lack in a few areas like board and bells and whistles. They have improved I shot a new Electra for a game yesterday (let him borrow my marq) it did what it is supposed to and shot paint with no complaints on my part

They aren't horrible i had one to start. Its more of what you can do with the marker. Yet it does lack some things(to small to notice as a beginner).

My first marker was a Spyder, and I loved that thing. I have since upgraded. They are perfect for a beginner player because you can no joke pick an old one up for $15. They are great to use while you learn how to play.

To be honest, I love Spyder. They are like an ak-47 of paintball. They aren't the best, most accurate guns but they hold up to basically anything you throw at them. And they are cheap too. No one should be dissing Spyder. They are made for entry level players and beginner's, not the Tampa bay damage. I recently bought an Electra and can't wait for it to get here. I love them because after a while you just grow to like them. They electronic spyders aren't bad, the only thing they could make better are the triggers. They have easy to use boards and are easy to clean. GO SPYDER!!!

There is NOTHING wrong about Spyders. Their mechanical markers electrical work just great on what they are supposed to do! They will ALWAYS shoot and never really break down. Like YeloSno said. People who shun and look down on Spyders are the ones who were bought $500+ markers when they started playing. I myself started with a Spyder Pilot and a VL Triad & I don't regret it a single bit, it's taught me alot. Gotta walk before you learn how to run bud

the only problem I see with a spyder is that it is metric. be much easier if it were standard like every other gun on the market.

This. The spyder has always been known as reliable and affordable, but the last 4-5 years of electra have been great. Fast, consistent, reliable, LP, and affordable.

As many others have commented, Spyders are great entry markers. With variations for both those looking for a milsim style marker to an electro, Spyder offers beginners to enjoy the sport of paintball while spending less. The majority of Spyders cost about $150 or less excluding the Spyder MRX Elite and maybe a few other versions.

I wouldn't hesitate to take a Spyder onto a woodsball field or a scenario game as a primary as it's capable and suited more so for that style of play. Speedball, however, is an arena they just can't compete it. Sure, a lot of your results will come down to player skill, but you'll simply be outgunned by someone with a marker costing 2-3 times as much.

If your plans are to play competitively, you'll be better off investing in an electro with a better reputation. Fortunately, if this is your situation, many companies are offering "entry" tournament markers so you don't have to drop $1000+ to play competitively.

Regardless, don't let anyone influence your decision on what marker you want to play with. I recommend trying several and finding what's comfortable and fits your style of play.

People shouldnt hate on Spyder. I bet 75% on this thread started playing with a spyder/pirahna/tippman. Just play the game.

Spyders work great and you can get parts if needed (say you lose or break a part). A lot like Tippmann's in that department.

It is the knock off spyders you have to watch out for, just because parts can be hard to get and quality can be low.

Luxe = ferrari
Etek = Honda civic
Spyder = smart car

All of em will get you where you need to go, some will get you there faster. But if you don't know how to operate it, it doesn't matter which one you own.

Thats usually what I tell the people at my field.
