Why upgrade a board?

Ok I really have tried to understand why you would want to change your stock board but i really cant figure it out. Is it just to have different modes and go more in depth into customization? Would swapping the board help the gun perform better if I were to not really change all the settings?

Honestly, I see no reason to upgrade a board either, unless your current one doesn't have the correct mode/adjustments that you need. Other than that it's personal preference. Sure some luxurious boards allow you to change settings quicker and easier, but how often are you really going to to be doing that at the field?

Some guns potential is restricted by stock boards. If you swap them it can unlock all kinds of tuning and firing mode capabilities and allow for easier and faster mode selection, tuning, and total gun control. most opeople that leave their guns stock and shoot stock settings would never need an aftermarket board. But for tuners like myself it just makes it easier for us to get a gun where we want it.

I have several guns. On some, the stock board is great and on others the stock board leaves a lot to be desired (whether it's fire mode or dwell settings).

Example, my 08 Ego's have a great (IMO) factory board, and I have no reason to upgrade). However, I hate the E1 board for autocockers, so I have upgraded all of them to ZeroB, E2, or Tadao. I also hated the factory Shocker NXT board.

I feel like the "need" to upgrade a board is dependent on what gun/board you are specifically referring to.

some boards are crap with no adjustment, or in some cases, stupid ways to adjust(taking apart the gun, removing pieces or physically moving adjustment switches). so getting a different board is better for that, as well as some people might like to have the same board for multiple guns. for ICD guns, there are some 15 different boards. in 9 of my guns, they have different boards and trying to remember all the settings is near impossible. so having the same manufacturer for your board in all your guns is good.

plus, some people just like Tadao or Virtue over the stock, because they think it shoots better. no arguing with that.

Aftermarket boards can have better processers and better code as well. Reasons those may come in handy.is even for basic things like triggerwork. I have a prkblem on some boards like on the tadqo musashi boards: I can't set my trigger tight enough because the switch and board are so sensitive that the second I start shooting, the gun just "runs away".
Other factors: are the connectors/terminals on the board good or will they be susceptible to being torn out or broken?

So the only real reason that you should get a board is for further levels of customization? Other than user preference the stock board would do just fine then no?

As everyone said above, very little reason to change out your board.

I made this up, but it holds some truth
Top 5 reasons people upgrade their boards

5. the stock board truly does suck and a new one is actually better
4. They want to program their marker more easier, without taking off the grip.
3. The stock board broke and it was easier to by an aftermarket
2. The stock board does not go down to 10.5
1. They have the money and want to throw it away on their marker.

Well, some boards offer different things, like more firing modes, finer setting tuner, OLED OR LCD screen. Mostly LCD and oled because you don't have to remember led lightes or anything. Honestly leave your gun on ramp and use the stock board.

People upgrade to better boards for many reasons such as; rate of fire, lcd screens, programmability, and other features. For example my gun (gog envy) has a stock board capped at 11bps. For some people that may not be enough, so they will buy the upgraded blackheart or virtue board for it to achieve higher rates of fire

It depends on the gun. Some guns come stock with top of the line boards, others don't. It also depends on what you want. If your stock board has the shooting mode(s) you use, and you don't need to adjust certain things, and you're fine with LED lights, then it isn't a problem.

If you want to adjust your shooting mode, or want to adjust shooting parameters, or want a screen, then you might need to upgrade.

Some manufactures change boards because they see an improvement in the preformance.

For example, a V1 or V2 mini has a Optimus board where a V3 has a Shockwave board.

Board could get old/damaged. Like the screen on my ego 08 is faded, so it is hard to read, because it is the stock board, so it's approaching near the end of it's life. Probably gonna upgrade to a virtue because it's hard to find the stock board for that ego

so for the most part it is just preference then. If I were to get a new board it would just be something easier to use? The gun wouldn't preform much better with a different board assuming both boards were set to the same settings?

Yea it makes no difference in performance really unless whatever gun you have the stock board is really bad or something.

Yes and no... some mid range guns do not come with boards that you can adjust certain shooting parameters. While the stock gun may not need to adjust these parameters, to get the most out of upgrades you may need to adjust certain things.

For example, with the gun completely stock, upgrading the board alone may only get you an additional 50 to 100 shots. However, if you change the bolt and/or ram, and/or reg, and or whatever else you could change, without the board, you may not be able to get the full advantage of those upgrades.

you cant use semi auto in a psp tournament either. which is more common than fields that only allow semi auto.

Playing in a tourney you would almost need ramping.

Quote:

Actually you can, you just need to limit it to 12.5 bps. The rules state no more than 3 shots per trigger pull after 3 semi auto shots, and at a rate not exceeding 12.5 BPS (actually the rules say no more than how many milliseconds 12.5 is between shots). So you could set your gun to semi and have it capped at 12.5, and just in case you could have it set to "ramp" to 12.5 when you're pulling over 12.5.
