Phantom questions
I had a few questions about my VSC phantom that I just picked up. I went out and played with it and noticed that it wasn't shooting too consistent or shooting straight. Not sure if this is from the CO2 or having too short of a barrel or what but I'm willing to switch to HPA or get a bigger barrel. Thanks

Keep the pump hand strong

If anything, find some detent rings or a barrel kit. These (if you don't have them) will greatly increase performance.
The rings should be available through CCI/Phantom, whereas barrel kits are a little tougher to find.

What kind of barrel kit would be best? And should I be going for a 14" or a 16" barrel?

I was having serious issues with velocity and consistency issues due to crap paint. Also had a lot of roll outs so I sent the body in to HaveBlue for the ASP detent mod, which is awesome by the way. The detent mod helped my consistency a lot due to the fact that it kept my paintballs in the same place within the breech each time i fired it.
If you are serious about a barrel kit most would recommend sending your stock phantom barrel to super staunchy for Freak boring. Another option is a Deadlywinds Fibur barrel. I plan on doing one of those barrel options are Christmas time...
My current setup is stock 11" barrel, ASP detent mod, CP drop forward, 12" In Yo Face T-stock and 13/3000 Gorilla Air tank. My phantom shoots phenomenally with good paint and I can only imagine how much more accurate I can be once I get a proper barrel kit.

Oh and I did not notice any difference in consistency when I switched from CO2 to HPA.

I doubt very seriously that the length of your barrel is contributing to your problems.
Personally I've found that the Phantom's 11" stock barrel is just about the perfect length.

So those issues could definitely be from crappy paint? Cuz I'd like to stick with the 12g cartridges but I wanna be able to get straight shots out of it. I could get the deadly wind barrel after a few paychecks...haha

Should I go for a dye ultralite or a deadlywind barrel? And 14" or 16"?

From what I have read, stock phantoms on 12grams are supposedly most efficient with the 11" barrel. With a longer barrel it will require more air to push the ball through. Consistency however is not effected by barrel length but rather by paint quality and paint to bore match. Keep in mind that with a 12 gram you will experience some velocity falloff as you get closer to the end of the 12 gram's air supply.
The most cost effective way to achieve paint to bore match is to have the stock barrel bored for inserts. If you are hellbent on trying a longer barrel, I recommend getting a cci barrel of your choice length, try it out, then freak bore the cci barrel you like most.

Alright well I just bought a bag of evil and planning to go out Sunday. Hopefully my detent rings and stock get here before then. The paint is snug, but not too snug in the barrel so I'm thinking it's gunna be a good fit

Awesome! Hope it works out well! One other upgrade I forgot to mention is that an oring TPC is a cheap upgrade that will help with velocity issues. My TPC was backing out during game play, causing velocity drops and subsequently requiring me to readjust after every game. The oring TPC does not move at all in the bolt which fixed the initial problem.

Cool, I am extremely satisfied with mine. The 12" puts the gun in perfect position for me while snap shooting.
