The 410 Fund offers student loan debt relief to graduates of Penn State University who played football and who would have otherwise been entitled to an athletic scholarship but who were denied the ability to receive one to the the NCAA sanctions through not fault of the athlete.

When was I bragging? Do I come off that way? If so, then I apologize. If you're just referring to the ducks and that poster.... Meh, you may have a point with the sign.
Also-
This year, them hapless retards beat Nebraska, Wisconsin, and ok state.... And those weren't even our ranked teams at the time. PAC is getting better (finally)

I'll address these together.
Was it a douchebag thing to say? Yeah.
Here's why I said it:
Being in a signals unit in Korea (sitting in front of a computer all day) is not putting your life on the line. That is reserved for the 10% of the military that actually patrols on a regular basis. Also, in order for that to happen, it's not like someone from the school called him up and asked him to do it..... No, he had to make that phone call to the school, and he could have just arrived home and had his homecoming in private, with his family.... Not in front of thousands of screaming fans. I put that on the same level of proposals at stadiums, where "will you marry me?" is plastered on the jumbotron.
He did it for attention.
Most guys come home to their families, and that's it. It's nice and intimate and special for the family. If you come home expecting a hero parade (and especially setting up your own), then **** you.... I don't care who you are or what you've done. It's even worse in this case because he didn't actually DO ANYTHING.
....and yes, I'm in the Marines. I got back from my third combat deployment about three weeks ago. If you want to check my credentials on who I am and what I do, then feel free to PM any of the regular posters in the military subforum, and they'll tell you. I won't get into the weeds about my job in here.
.....friends?

Currently, there are 34 FBS teams averaging 35+ points per game. Georgia Tech is the only one with a losing record.

It's still pretty ****ing cool that he got to do that for his family. If/when I come back from whatever deployments I get sent on, I would love to be able to do something like that. I get what you're saying, but I disagree.

If you look at their website, it says you can't get paid until you're OUT of school.

so? Its still paying players, its just delayed. This will open a HUGE loophole if it is not stopped.

You asked how it bypassed being a violation.
You didn't ask if I agreed with it.

I guess I'm surprised that loophole is even allowed to exist.
Come to (insert school here) and upon your graduation or declaring for the draft, we will pay you $100k. That would get interesting.

Id like to think he did it to surprise his family and not for himself. The guys I know who have done combat tours, gotten purple hearts, etc dont want attention or to talk about it generally but they dont have families either. Based on what he was saying, he was saying thank you to his family. The moving around etc is tough on them. His job isnt that bad but it is for them you know? I like to think he did it for them...to surprise them and basically say thank you in a huge public way.

It would be. Just like you cant sign deals, get loans, etc in anticipation of earnings while in school, this wouldnt work either. Its not illegal, you would just be ineligible as per the NCAA standards. Also, these people are pathetic.

Well you are right that Purdue bears no relevance. To anything.
And potatoes are delicious. Yet another truth.

You don't apply for the funds until after you're out of school.

It's true. If that video gets posted in the military subforum, you'll generally get the same reaction.

And that's fine....
And let me clear something up: If he had come back from Afghanistan, I wouldn't have said anything at all about it..... But signals in Korea? Gay. That's not a deployment, that's a duty station.
Bender- I can understand that.... But there's a few better ways to do it.

I like all of them except when white is in there. Basically, as long as they have two colors or less, I'm alright with it. I also hate the carbon fiber gray.

Never said I would do it but I wont belittle someone who did, nawmean *****? I appreciate the crowd support more than anything. The look on the kids faces is what everyone cared about, not the solider really.
