Salmon fishing

Two weekends in a row I went salmon fishing on the Salmon River in Pulaski, New York. I had a few salmon on each day, but no successful lands. But it seems like there are always two guys who seem to have a salmon on every two minutes. What could they be doing differently that works or are they just snagging?

odds are they were snagging/lining them.
If you want to learn the correct way/learn tricks and tips to have a more successful trip, look into a guide. Yeah they seem expensive, but every time i have used a guide on the salmon river, its been well worth it.

^ what kenny said. where these guys using a spinning reel per chance or where they fly/centerpin fishing? they were probably throwing spoons or inline spinners with trebles or something.

salmon/trout fishing is not exactly easy and takes some time to get the hang of getting a good hook set and landing the fish. learning correct presentation and what offering to use is also an acquired skill. ive been doing it for a few years now and i am still learning new things every outing

It did seem that the guys that weren't fly fishing were having more "luck". Snagging just takes very little skill and doesn't seem like true fishing to me. I might head back out there for stealhead and hopefully I can land one.
