Not the person to ask but having a filter will greatly raise the chance of the glass not breaking but the filter might break and leave shards of glass on the lens glass.

Agreed on the T2i if you want something that does video, you can get one brand new off Amazon with the kit lens for less than 700. You will want a better lens for sports though.

I'll also echo the t2i. Don't be afraid to look into used, either. You'll be able to have more money go towards lenses as well.

Bower/Vivitar/Pro-Optic
I liked mine personally. Pretty sharp for what it is and the cost.
It is manual focus tho so remember that and if you shoot canon no focus confirmation.

Manual focus isn't a problem, usually for the better with a fisheye.

getting into it
hey everyone, so im looking to get into photography and was wondering about a few things....
does anyone know what the best editor is. (free)
what gear i would need for the actual photography. (camera, bipod, etc)
if anyone knows some filming techniques (where to film from, angles, etc)
any help is appreciated....also if you guys have any footage that you have and don't really need, would be chill if you could send it to me. if i make a video with it, ill be sure to put name in description for credit =) (any kind of footage works as long as i can render it) im am focusing mostly on paintball, but might brand out to other sports

Googling and coming in here with a specific question would be a good start, you need to do some of your own research.

What will you be shooting? what will your average F/stop be (based on what youre shooting)? What kindof lighting will you be shooting in? all of these you should answer yourself as well as what sort of camera/ price range youre looking at before asking about a lense.
