Looking for a ride - NYC

Hey all,

Ever since I moved to New York I gave up my car and never get to play anymore as my buddies always flake and it just doesn't make sense to rent a car. If anybody drives out to a decent field (Liberty, Cousins, etc) I would be happy to cover some costs (gas, lunch, whatever makes sense) in exchange for a ride (including back of course!). I live in Manhattan so I can meet up any place reasonably close to the train, Manhattan, Brooklyn, Queens, etc.

About me: I am 34 and used to play rookie 3 and 5 man tournaments but gave it up many years ago. I have my own gear (all kinda old at this point!) and I am totally looking to play for fun... ie recball, woodsball, a few pick-up speedball games, etc.

Anyway, this is an open invitation, I work Mon-Fri and am typically pretty free to go play Sat/Sun on relatively short notice. Send me a PM and we can figure out what works...

Thanks,
Dominic

Meadowlands is pretty accessible by public transportation. Just 1 bus from port authority and a short walk.

Liberty Paintball is about 1.5 miles from the Metro North Station
High Velocity Paintball is about 2.5 miles from the LIRR
Cousins Paintball Riverhead is about 5.5 miles from LIRR

If by public transportation and you don't mind pack hauling, you could always just walk, run or jog to the field from the station. All of them are about 1 hour transit time in each direction, except for Liberty which has a 2 hour return trip.

I usually play at HV, so if anything I'll probably give you a headsup the next time I go.

Lainway Sports in Orange County is about 15 minutes from the second to last stop on the Port Jervis line of the Metro North. If you're interested in coming up we could work something out and I could get you to and from the station.

thanks everyone, some good stuff, couple of questions if you have a sec...

DuckDownItsPaint - that would be great, after looking around, high velocity seems to be the most convenient if I really want to do public trans too. I take it you like the field?

Sand6452 - Is Lainway speedball fields only or did I miss something?

Thanks!

The field setup is nice for the most part. Lots of cover on most of it, but not so much that it would impact play. Except for their field Western which has a HUGE flaw that can be exploited. The last time I was there, me and four guys tore through the entire opposing team during a 20 on 20 and finished the round in under 30 seconds.

Having your own gear is an absolute must though. Their rental masks are pure crap. Markers are a coin toss.

Lainway is only speedball as far as I know..

Meadowlands has a few options, you can take the bus from port authority then walk maybe 10 minuets to the end of the road and you are there, I believe you will pass by their indoor facility on the way.

Secacus Junction is only a 5-10 minuet drive from the meadowlands field, it is the first stop for many of the trains coming from Penn station to NJ therefore there are always trains running within 30 minuets of eachother.. There is a train stop fairley close to the field (i forget the name of it)

The bus from port authority or having someone pick you up from secacus are your best bets, its cheaper taking the train to secacus then the train to another stop in jersey...

post in the meadowlands threads and ask if anyone minds picking you up from secacus... or just take the bus, when I was frequent at meadowlands I would see people walking every sunday morning... (I had a full car so i didnt pick them up lol)

I just moved to New York myself and haven't had a chance to check out any of the local fields. So I'm also looking for a way to get to the fields. Maybe we could meet up one weekend. I'm looking for a group of guys to start playing paintball with.

Demon - That would be great, if we could get like three people together renting a zip car is an easy option... about 10 or 11 dollars an hour is faster and cheaper than LIRR, etc in most cases I think. Again though, I am purely looking to play pretty casually myself... of course, what you do when you get there is up to you

Yeah, zipcar is a lot better. Especially since LIRR is about $20/person.

Nic- I didn't even think about a zip car. That might be a idea. I'm looking to play this Sunday. Maybe we can try and get another guy or two in and go hit up a field.
