So, I was at paintballshowcase the other day buy some factory parts...and thought I'd go ahead and pick up the Ego8 LP valve.

When I got it, I shot the Ego across the chrono at 285 fps. Pulled the stock valve out, replaced with the LP valve and it shot 260 fps. Dwell was 14.5 and LPR 1 turn in.

So my question is, what did I do wrong? It was my understanding with the LP valve that I would need to turn the HPR down. I did not mess with the HPR yet, because in my head with the HPR at the same pressure, it should chrono higher. Is that backwards; or with the LP valve - is it possible the HPR is too high, and lowering the HPR would actually increase velocity?

It's possible that if the pressure behind the valve is too high (Via the HPR) it is going to make it difficult for the ram to strike and open the valve sufficiently at the current LPR pressure. And since on Ego's the LPR is designed so it cannot be adjusted a significant amount, yes, you should first turn down the HPR, and turn it back up until the marker is shooting at field limits. This is similar to going over the bell curve when sweetspotting the inline reg on an Autococker.

It's always a good idea to test the pressure of the HPR to know exactly it was at before and after.

That's what I was thinking. Sadly, I installed the valve on Monday and that thought didn't occur to me until this morning.

I was going to say the same. LPR possibly too high. Stock is 2 turns in.
If you should decide to try again let us know if that changes the problem
