Check out your local field and try asking people if you can test fire their marker just to get a feel for it. If you're a friendly enough person you will typically get a chance to shoot almost any marker on the market.
I've constantly let people shoot my luxe and rev-i. Paintball is a social sport so being social will help you a lot.
Don't buy into the hype - test markers before you buy them. You'd be amazed at what people try to say about markers that is just plain out false.
A lot of people have buyers remorse - don't become one of them.
