Figure better get everyone's input on this since maybe other's out there may run into this situation sooner or even already right now (since someone inquired about new bolts further threads down).

So I picked up this lovely RO viking from a-tach as (some may have probably knew) and it has a very well beaten stock bolt. It's pretty worn out and even the upper tube of the RO is well seen a lot of action.

Thus, is it time to get a new bolt or not? What would happen if I continue to use this well used bolt, IF it's still good for now?

Here are some pics...took them just now and btw the bolt looks 10 times more scratched, pitted, and chewed up in person.


Its really scratched to hell on this side and I believe this bolt was modded to accommodate the detents

So what you guys think? I know this viking has been dishing it out and I want it to dish out more pain but I feel I need to give it some tlc first.

I would probably pick up a new bolt for it but the breech should be fine.

Is there any side to side play? Is it ok over the chrono...if those are fine, then the bolt is fine and its pretty much just cosmetic...

Looks like a viking bolt should look. Like its being used

As long as there isn't any sand/dirt imbeded in the bolt, your fine. take some 1500 grit sandpaper and some sopy water, and polish/smooth the bolt. When I buy guns that have worn breaches like that I run my honing brush through the breach a few times. Makes everything nice and polished and doesn't take the anno off.

I would just do as Evil said and sand it up and probably clean up the left detent groove.

That looks like an '03 bolt to me.

Actually after further inspection it does wiggle around a bit in the forward position and I can see a gap all the way through now. It was different doing this inspection at night compared doing this during the day. I'm gonna take another picture. Thanks for the replies btw.

DC might have also some used bolts. Got one for my viking from them.

That is the sun on the other side...

I'm gonna inquire for a new one...but I have this awesome feeling the viking will still shoot this weekend with this bolt and possibly shoot very well.
