You don't know many Mormons, do you?

Bahaha. No, I don't know many mormons and I can still assure you that they are far from perfectly devout angels like the media would like you to believe. Nobody is truly innocent. To say that you can't be a Christian because you make fun of the poor is almost as dumb as saying Mormons are perfect. Yes, there are devout mormons. There are also devout catholics, devout baptists, devout protestants and devout presbyterians. What a dumb question.

My point honestly was to show you your hypocrisy. You're religious enough to worry about America being turned into Sodom if we allow gay marriage, but as far as caring about the poor-you know, stuff that Jesus actually talked about-suddenly you're not that religious. And government not allowing gay marriage is important for our country, but as far as mandatory donations to the poor in the form of welfare, that messes with free will too much. You can't have it both ways.
I'm not asking you to think like me, just think...

Caring about the poor via voluntary donations is different than forcing people to give up their money to level the playing field, which is what too many people here advocate. When donations are mandatory, they are no longer worth anything, philosophically.

Nice - you used the correct "your/you're" this time! That's awesome, props man!
As far as Paul Ryan, I found it amusing that the Catholic Church apparently denounced him upon being selected and he considers himself a Catholic. I question if Ryan believes in any of the drivel that the inherently dangerous Catholic Church shovels out, because his earlier ties to Ayn Rand sounded strong. He would ask his staff to read her work (actually it was required reading apparently) and he might be an in the closet atheist. I can appreciate that if he is, because I know how being an atheist/agnostic is while trying to support conservative policies while splitting from the ranks on issues like religion in school and caring less on abortion or porn.
Paul Ryan is cool. I hope he gets into office and tells the Catholic Church to pound sand.

And I totally understand your point. Even if they are not worthless to the people receiving them. But then it is okay for government to enforce proper marriage, even if gay marriage is illegitimate by nature?

Sorry, I haven't been able to respond since I made this thread. To clear up my third point, I was referring to the fact that Paul Ryan claimed that his budget fell under clear catholic values and lead to this:
Paul Ryan claims budget is Catholic not objectivistic:
http://www.catholicworldreport.com/b..._ayn_rand.aspx
Letter from Georgetown Bishops: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1...FHA/edit?pli=1
He responded by saying the Pope would have his back:
http://slatest.slate.com/posts/2012/..._budget.htm l
Eventually the Pope himself would reject the Paul Ryan budget (as well as plenty of theologians). I assumed this was common knowledge. I shouldn't have.
