Injury recovery (subluxed shoulder)

hey guys i dont normally venture into this part of pbn but i hope you all can help me with some knowledge. i seperated (subluxed) my right shoulder yesterday after an accident on a bike. ive been icing it and keeping it in the sling but aside from that i dont know what to do.

i am going to a sports doctor for more information but i was hoping to get some excercises and diet recommendations from you all to help put me on the fast track for a full recovery.

im sorry about my grammar its tough getting used to one hand typing.

thanks for any help if you can give it

Did you have to relocate it or was it basically ok without touching it? If it was really dislocated you could have torn the labrum depending on where the humerus exited the socket and possibly the biceps tendon if it dislocated with your arm over your head. Basically MRI for sure and probably surgery. Try to get a MRI without contrast if you can get away with it and get a 2nd MRI with contrast if they can't see what they expect but a good radiologist can see without it. The contrast is sort of like putting a gallon of water in your shoulder and then seeing if anything separates from the pressure, not good and it will increase the injury although they will just go in and fix it anyway.

If you go to 5 doctors, sports medicine guys will try to rehab it and tell you to strengthen the muscles around it, surgeons will try to cut it and fix the underlying issue and then rehab it. The surgeon will almost never reject an easy 1.5 hours of work. Neither will agree with the other so it's your decision, good luck.

If you didn't fully dislocate it, you might get lucky with some physical therapy, no heavier than 3lb at first and you are going for mostly range of motion and stability because everything is now stretched that guides the various bones of the shoulder.

Even if you wait a couple of weeks with 0 activity before you can see a doctor it won't really change your outcome or their ability to diagnose it.

Make sure to get to a Dr right away. like the guy above me said, it could make a big difference in your healing if you wait to long. I started dislocating my left shoulder in highschool after getting dropped in practice. After going through rehab and everything i was able to get back into it that season still. Have dislocated and subfluxed said shoulder more than i care to admit to, but still compete, i've completed Insanity and competed in college sports...just make sure to see someone quick!

Subluxed and separated are two different things.. find out which it is.. subluxed is when it pops out of the socket but also goes back in at the same time.. strong acute pain which eventually subsides after icing/rest. Don't need to do anything about it other than strengthen said shoulder... separated is a sprain of the Acromial clavicular joint.. depending on severity only surgery will fix. Most the time they will do nothing for it though

You're only a couple months behind, but that's okay.
