Greer unloads on Florida GOP, alleges voter suppression plot

Quote:
In a wide-ranging deposition that spanned two days in late May, former Florida Republican Party Chairman Jim Greer denounced some party officials as liars and "whack-a-do, right-wing crazies'' as he described turmoil in the months before his resignation.

Greer said some GOP leaders were meeting to discuss ways they could suppress black votes while others were constantly scheming against each other. … His statements were in response to questions from lawyers for the party, Senate President Mike Haridopolos and Sen. John Thrasher. Greer has filed a civil suit against the party and the two officials in an attempt to collect $130,000 he was promised in a written agreement shortly before he resigned. The civil suit, pending in Leon County, is unlikely to be resolved until after a criminal trial scheduled for mid November. …

Greer's animosity was evident on almost every page of the deposition as he described the inner workings of a party that has controlled Florida since 1998.

On voter suppression, Greer said he had just completed a December 2009 meeting with party general counsel Jason Gonzalez, political consultant Jim Rimes and Eric Eikenberg, Crist's chief of staff, when questions arose about fundraising.

"I was upset because the political consultants and staff were talking about voter suppression and keeping blacks from voting. It had been one of those days,'' he said.

Greer has made some wild charges in the course of his legal odyssey While the former Republican Party of Florida chair and Charlie Crist confidant's credibility may be suspect, his willingness to stir up trouble is not.

This is just appalling. I know both parties have their 'tactics', but this is just downright disturbing. Yet another reason, on top of the many others, to never support the GOP.

Matrix jokes aside it is pretty questionable that this whole voter fraud thing is an argument while instances of voter fraud are so minimal. Historically minorities have been targeted, I don't think this is much different than in its goal from poll taxes and literacy tests.

Don't get me wrong. I'm sure democrats would attempt to suppress the rich white vote if they thought they could come up with a plan for it.

Florida is a big swing state and this has been the GOP's tactic to reduce the minority vote so Republicans win the state in the elections.

White people looking after white people? Shocking.

I suspect this has more to do with blacks largely voting democrat than some ingrained racism that this gentleman seems to be implying exists.

Wow so not a single legitimate allegation or any sort of proof, and we're supposed to think this isn't politicall motivated?

The biggest sign that it's politically motivated, is when Al Sharpton says "this doesn't have anything to do with what side you're on"

Eric, where's your outrage over Black Panthers standing outside polling stations with billy clubs last election? Either I missed you being outraged about it and making a thread, or you "missed" it on purpose because you don't hold a critical eye to liberals or their various support mechanims. Which is it?

Are the black panthers an arm of the Democratic party
?

They aren't?

Hmmm.

Although I can't say I blame the democrats for staying silent as this would aid them.

Well I used the term "support mechanism" because they were supporting Obama (a Democrat) in this case and historically identify with/support the Democrat party over Republicans.

I'm just jerking your chain. But I don't think what you are doing is constructive. Politics has suffered enough degeneration. It is much more entertaining to sit back and enjoy the show.

Let's see, Greer is on trial for somehow bilking the Florida GOP out of $200,000, he has accused his former boss of being homosexual as part of his defense, and he is claiming he is owed $130,000.00 based on a written agreement that it looks like he has yet to produce. Did he do anything about this alleged voter suppression until his personal crap hit the fan? Yeah, he is totally credible.

Totally.

Think of it like this. Everyone was caught with their hand in the cookie jar, and he decided to rat on everyone else. He's just as guilty as the rest of them, but he is throwing it back at the GOP to show everyone just how dirty they are.

You didn't respond to my post. And no, we don't have to "think of it like this", because there is no proof of that and there is plenty of evidence and motive for him to be making it up - chief among them being his lack of any specific charges.

Both parties use tactics like this and it would be good if both parties stopped doing it. President Obama and the liberals love to claim everyone is racist. The right has people like the Koch brothers who try to pay people to say global warming is fake (already proven to be real) to help oil stay rich. Plus there is the jews who accuse both parties of being anti semite to lead us into wars in the Middle East to fight countries like Iraq and Iran to help Israel. I don't know why Israel doesn't move, it would be safer for all their citizens.

and swerve the Black Panther thing was a hoax

No offense, that blog has pretty much the same amount of proof that it's a hoax as your initial statement.

If the full video that they're talking about is available, then sure.

You obviously don't mind fake stuff, or you wouldn't be believing a fake blog post and thinking Glenn Beck started it without actually knowing who.

Being lied to is different than creating fake stuff on purpose. you like fake stuff, like the bible and pretending china is a threat when they just want their island back. defense spending is overdone and overblown. Ron Paul was right about that. End the fed, legalize drugs and stop spending on defense.

Beck started it and he's fired from Fox. Good, glad he is done there. Oh and ERIC SUCKS
