MAO Venue

So, now that the event is over... how did everyone like the venue, especially for it being the first national event held at the facility?

The venue itself was amazing.

Rick and his team did an amazing job with maintaining the parking after the heavy rain on Friday.

Gizzmo did a fantastic job setting up the facility and running the practice on Thursday. Everything was top notch.

The overall layout was great - plenty of room to move around but close enough together that you didn't have to hike a mile to get from field to field.

The grass fields were amazingly maintained and great to play on.

I felt the Pit Security was better this event than any other event I've been to. I don't know if that was the staff at OXCC (they all had OXCC T-shirts on) or the PSP, but it seemed pretty tight to me.

My only downside to this venue is the location - I feel that we didn't seem to draw as many "outsiders" as events in the past have drawn. It's always nice to see more fans in the stands and more customers at the vendor tents.

For having to make the venue change last minute this came out great.

Huge props to Lane and Rick along with their respective teams.

This was my first event playing RaceTo and I had a lot of fun.

Both of the fields I played on had a pretty decent incline. At least 4-6ft difference from corner to corner. The surface was fine, just not level.

The reffing wasn't great, either. But I guess that is what we should have come to expect for the lower divisional fields.

Otherwise, everything was fantastic.

Unless the land is just naturally like that, I believe that's to help drainage when it rains. If you look at football fields, they aren't completely level either.

Well, you don't raise one corner of a field 4-6ft to accommodate rainfall. It's just naturally sloped.

I realize there wasn't much they could do about this on such short notice, but it's an issue they should take into consideration if they decide to return next year.

everything was awesome. Rick is a great man and did amazing for this event.

reffing...im sorry but was quite absurd on the divisional fields. On three separate fields it was seen that refs were not calling people out when they stayed in, hiding from the paintballs due to them being new and "afraid of being shot" <---(direct quote from a head ref on my field). We saw many bad calls although that will happen regardless of whos reffing.

overall the event was good. just wish there were refs who actually dd their jobs on the divisional fields.

I've complained about venues in the past when they were bad enough to warrant it. This venue was very nice. It handled the heavy rain fairly well and dried out as well as can be expected. As people said security was good, I'm more than willing to show my ID a few extra times to feel that my gear is safe while I'm on the field.

It was harder than normal to move from field to field to spectate, but given that this was a last minute swap to this field I can overlook that and assume they can have a better layout next time.

Food was pretty expensive, but did have good options. Vendor area was setup with a nice layout that was easy to see and get around.

Parking as as close as they could get it and shuttles resolved any people who had to hike it in from the far end. Hell, I got covered in mud pushing a suburban and trailer through the mud on Friday as we left but I still thought they did a great job keeping things under control in the rain.

I'd definitely be happy to come back to this venue for next MAO.

Oh, I didn't realize it was a slant. I thought you meant that the field was slightly bowed.

I thought the fields were awesome and the venue was great. Wasn't too far from local hotels and really didn't feel to "in the middle of nowhere" like i expected. Shuttle carts were great and i loved rolling up to the field in the pouring rain and saying "where the **** are the fields at" hahaha.

I still don't understand why they closed off the access road to the right to "staff only". They should of put the staff area somewhere else and let people walk thru there instead of hauling gear bags, water, coolers, tents, ice, etc. from the far side of the parking lot all the way around to the entrance road on the left and then back around.

Other than that it was all good

I would say this hit the nail on the head.

From a Vendor standpoint, the layout for the vendor area and food area was awesome. We all got a lot of foot traffic, which we all want.

This, minus the reffing was a little slack on the d3 field(only field I can really comment on) during prelims... Other than that I had a great time and would definitely play an event at oxcc again

Well in comparison to chicago it was easier to watch multiple fields from the spec side in chicago but also you had to walk all the way around to get from the pits to the spec side which was a decent walk. As compared to just walking around your field at OXCC. Although it was pretty tight between the fields a little more room for pits and specs would have been nice. Great job hosting the 2012 MAO!

Nobody on the 2 5man lines and xball line that i went with ever used a shuttle I seen them driving past with the "FREE SHUTTLE" signs and for some reason completed avoiding ever getting on one

Best Venue by far

-Fields drained flawlessly
-CAn you say $5 Burger and fries!
-Shuttle service
-crab cakes
-constant effort by the staff to maintain the integrity of the ground during the rain
-crab cakes
-Girls working the food and bev tent
-crab cakes
-vendor area was set up in a central location
-crab cakes

I think that all things considered this field had like a month to prepare for this event, how much better will it be if they have an entire year to improve. Rick and Gizzmo work hard to ensure that every small detail is covered, MAO should stay here for years to come.
