Freak boring question

Does anyone know if there's somebody that freak bores carbon fiber barrels? And maybe put porting on them too? It's not a normal looking cf weave, it's an old school barrel for a Line SI Bushmaster Deluxe with a delrin pump sleeve, if that matters.

Just wondering if it's possible to be done correctly and if so who does it.

I know it's hard to see the weave because of the crappy lighting and phone pics, but it's all I can do right now. And I would only need a couple inches of porting, because of how far the pump arm goes. Pic to explain the size:

super_stanchy freak bores barrels, don't know if he does CF barrels, but it wouldn't hurt to ask him.

He doesn't :/ I looked at his thread on MCB and he specifically says he will not do carbon fiber barrels, so I was wondering of the reason why is that it ruins the barrel or that he just doesn't want to deal with them for some reason (such as the thickness issues like with shaft backs)

They prolly get torn up after the resin is removed- not to mention unraveling and weakening the barrel in the area it got bored. I also believe that cb barrels are ridiculously thin.

I also can do freak boring but I dont do carbon fiber either. There are a couple reasons. carbon fiber barrels get their strength from the actual carbon fibers when you cut them you loose the structural integrity of the barrel. it would still stay together (maybe) but it would be so weakened it would break easily. The other reason is the carbon fibers are EXTREMELY abrasive to the tools used to cut it. I would wager that it would take 3 different reamers to finish the bore to length. Each reamer costs like 75 bucks so it would cost about 225 in tooling plus time. or we could buy a custom diamond coated reamer for maybe 1000 and maybe bore 10 barrels before having to buy another. So unless your looking to spend about 300 to bore a barrel that will break next time you tap it off something your MUCH better off buying something like a DW barrel.

^^^ thanks for shedding light on my question. That sucks though. And the reason I'm not just getting a dw barrel is because the gun has a "weird" threading, kinda like the barrels for the Palmer blazers, to secure the barrel there is a screw that fits into a slot in the outside of the barrel, an there's no threading at all. So unfortunately no dw

that's why I was wondering.

well the question is WHY are you using a carbon fiber barrel. if your using it for ascetic reasons I have some ideas that might help. If your looking for a better barrel that uses freak inserts you could by a cp one piece and have the back end machined to fit the sleeve.

If your willing to consider some other options let me know I might be able to help you out.

It's because when I bought the gun off my teammate, he included the barrel with it. It's not really for aesthetics, but for functionality. It has a delrin sleeve that the pump arm slides on, it's lighter, and it is slightly shorter than the stock barrel.

can the g6r stock barrel be bored out for freak inserts ? how much does it cost ?
