New Weapon System...

Okay, I am looking to add a new weapon system to the Redneck Wagon. My restrictions are we can only have one main gun. I dont want to do a flame thrower as it just pisses too many people off and we can piss people off just fine with out that. So my thoughts are a mortar system. While I can only have one main gun, I can have as many Mortars as I can mount on there.

Now the Mortars have to be fired at no lower an angle then 45 degree from the plain of the truck. Hince, if the truck is on level ground, the tubes would be at 45 degrees.

I didnt want to put anything on the turret. But what I was thinking it making a set of three or four mortars that would be mounted on the front bumper. They'd be short barrelled and be set up where we could lower or raise them from inside and fired electronically.

Second option was to mount one or two on the trucks doors at 45 degree.

Option three in the rear side windows. I thought about building a box over them with say two mortars in them. The only thing there is the turret if not straight it would block the shots. And one reason for this is the ability to enguage targets in multiple directions. And the inside is kinda cramped. Dont want to get in my gunners way when he's spinning the turret. Knocks to the knees sucks.

Now this system probably isnt going to be the most effective thing, but it will be cool. And cool is what I'm going for with an additional weapon system. If I get a tank kill with it or take out a few bunkers, then cool.

Anyway, thoughts, suggestions?

Boommaster any ideas how to do this? I tried a fogger with a converter and had poor results.

Mount on the hood with hinged butt plates. Attach a cable to a collar at the business end and run it back through your windshield. Lays flat while you drive, and you can adjust elevation on the fly by taking in or letting out cable.

Best deployment of smokes I've seen is pull pin, hurry up and muzzle load the smoke and get your shot off FAST. No success with preloaded rounds yet.

Of course, I have ideas all the time. Making them work is the problem.

I did have a good day in my walking tank deploying smoke. Got one of those $20 cold smoke cannisters, tied a cord onto it. When the situation came to use it. I activated it and dropped it onto the ground and just dragged it behind me to place the smoke where it needed to be. Beats throwing it and crossing your fingers that the smoke will go where you want it. I got blown up so I just dropped the cord and left it smoking on the ground. When the smoke drifted into the objective, there were about 20 of our guys right in the back edge of it and successfully overran the bunker and captured it.

However............ I have done some R&D in planning. Got to deal with the objections the producer might have. Some don't like things that might catch things on fire. Was at one game where they ran everyone out of that trailer during the night game with smoke, but they also set the trailer on fire briefly. No more "hot" smoke at his games.... Had to suspend the game and made everyone start over back at the insertion point. I was within 20 yards of enemy HQ trying to figure out which guy was the general when they suspended the game... Grrrrrr.

Then they might have a problem with player that might have asthma, etc. The smoke I've played in was not pleasant to breathe.

So I looked into the smoke they use in the big rock concerts, movie sets, etc. There are two kinds. One that condenses by misting over dry ice or a refrigeration unit and one that is HOT and under pressure. When released to atmospheric pressure it instantly vaporizes, then cools and condenses into a very thick fog that lasts for a minute or so before it evaporates back into a gas. Non toxic if inhaled, etc. Got the MDS sheet on it...

So someday soon I'm going to fill a 12 oz CO2 tank 2/3 full and pressurized it to 200 psi. Then put it in a water bath at 210 degree and heat it up. Keep an eye on the pressure guage as it rises. It does have a burst disk. Turn it upside down and turn on the remote hose fitting and see what happens. There are lots of heat sources in a motorized tank that could keep a water bath nice and hot. I have fantasys about how much smoke there would be from a 20 oz CO2 dumped in 3-4 seconds

You could do the R&D for the prototype. PM or e mail me. ddupont@charter.net

Here, go buy one.. Just figure out how to power it.

http://www.123dj.com/l_fogmachines.h...ZlswodcymCZ A

I personally like this one.

Is 15,000 cubic feet of fog per minute enough? Outdoors with a breeze? MAYBE. Or is there a thing in paintball called too much fog?

New Weapon System? Mount this on top of your tank. Make cover for the grunts.

This is along the lines I wanted. Fill a large volume in seconds. They use this for security systems.

Saved the best for last: This is what I want: 1,000 cubic feet per second.

Already have one of those. Freaks the cat out when I get intoxicated and smoke up the house...

They dont do as well as you'd think outside. At least here where we tend to have a slight breeze at most times. Thats actually why I got it, but grenades work better then the fog machines do. But you got me thinking. A couple metal pipes mounted on the back of the truck with those electro activated grenades might be kinda interesting.

EDIT: that one is a bigger unit then the one I have. It may do better out side.

I have a 1500 watt that I hooked up to a converter. I used froggys fog bog for the juice. It is suppose to be the most dense fog you can get. I had very poor results with it. Team Krisis with their Omega tank seemed to have figured out a good solution I just am not sure what they used.

Works for Soviet tanks, but I could see us starting a fire if we didn't implement it properly.

I believe you are looking for Oil Based smoke machines. They are expensive in the thousands of dollars.

Are they using aviation smoke oil like the one they use in air shows?

Aint got a clue. I just remember seeing something on one of the forums about it. And that smoke machine... Wow! That sucker rocks. Cost too much, but it rocks. You know, we havent set this one on fire yet.

You might want to check with Big Joe, owner of one of the mini Sherman
tanks used at D-Day. He's come up with a very effective smoke screen
system.

As for the idea of mortars, I think the idea has merit, but making it work
effectively is going to be difficult. Determining range would be one issue,
reloading under fire another. Some military vehicles are equipped with
mortars, but they are being fired from a parked vehicle by a crew that's
trained in their use. Mounting mortars on the bumper might be good for
deploying smoke, but then you run into the issue of the field owner and
his insurance underwriter allowing you to launch your projectiles.

You know our field owner. We can get away with Nerf's but thats it. Hand thrown nades only, so sayeth the Ferg.

The mortars would be a one time fire weapon, per run. Its not something I'd depend on as a primary type weapon. It'd only be effective in open areas. The one bennefit that might make it some what effective is that our primary enemy like to sit in a certain spot. And I can practice firering on that spot from different positions. And the same with the bases we have in our open areas.

If I get one kill with it on our armor detachment commander in the Wallace, I will be more then happy.

Found this on another forum.

posted by OTTO.

We actually have 2 separate smoke generator systems in the Omega. The 2 "guns" on the front are false. Between the driver and the passenger in the front of the Omega, we have a large metal box that you can drop an orange smoke can in. The smoke is not very thick and is used mostly for show, but I haven't used that system in well over a year because its a pain to clean up after.

The second system uses a special smoke formula called Swamp Fog. We have a drip line set up that drops smoke directly into the exhaust. It produces a pretty large cloud of smoke (so long as the wind cooperates) and we frequently use it in support of infantry actions where we simply can't put down enough fire to cover advancing troops. It is particularly useful at places like Blanding and Command Decisions Paintball. The smoke is white, however, and we frequently have people chasing us down to let us know we are on fire Very Happy

Yo Jester. Instead of rigging up mortar tubes... what's wrong with us just tossing out sport smoke from the tank? Is that against the rules?

Perfectly legal. We have done that in the past. I just want to do something new on it. I'm still thinking.

You? Thinking? That should produce enough smoke to cloud the whole field
