Saw these at my local Wal-Mart yesterday. Paint seems to be pretty decent.

If you're a child of the 80's you remember this stuff when it was called GOTCHA!
I love it. When I was a kid we used to have birthday parties and all bring our GOTCHA guns and play for hours!
It's not meant to replace paintball, obviously. It's meant as a fun game for kids that has a base in between that old GOTCHA! game and paintball. It's a way to get people into it as step 1, and have some fun.
I'm already a supporter. I can't wait to play with my daughter who has been begging me to go paintballing but she's not old enough yet.

IMO, this isn't something needed in the sport. I see eye/face injuries to kids who aren't wearing proper protection.

The GOTCHA guns shot a rag with 'paint snot' on it, they were horrible. With some nice .50 cal paint, it should be closer to shooting a Crossman 3357 pistol.

That's my plan as well. My 8 year old daughter got to try paintball for the first time this spring at our field. She and I played a couple games of paintball after everyone had left for the day.
Given that my kids have grown up around paintball, I feel pretty comfortable letting them chase each other around the field with these (their ages 6 & 8). My oldest wants to have a paintball birthday party--this may be the perfect option for it.

Like this?
I think these new ones are going to have a fun place, especially as an entry for young players, or people a little concerned about taking hits at first. I just had that discussion with one of the folks in my office. She wants to try paintball, but really doesn't want to get blasted in the throat her first time out. This would be a good way to get introduced before moving into the more mainline gear.

My only concern with starting kids off younger and younger, and I'm not sure if my concerns are warranted, is that every hobby seems to have an average time span that keeps people interested before they move onto something else. If we get 7 and 8 year olds playing paintball, will that mean many/most will get it out of their system well before they are teens and we end up with fewer mature players? Like I say, I'm not sure if this is a legitimate concern, but there's a feeling in my gut that tells me there might be something to it.

so, if you had one, and you wanted to sell a used one on here, would this go in "mechanical markers" or "everything else?"

They come with a detachable face plate and the paint has hardly any force behind it.

it doesnt matter. its all about teaching the younger kids the right habits when they are younger rather then breaking them of bad habits when they are older and get to the real thing

It sounds like they come with no faceplate. There's an additional cost to buy one.

- No Upping threads. If you have something to say, please do, but don't post in the thread just to take it to the top of the forum.
- Do not post "1st post", "1st", "First post" or anything similar (or with any other number) at any point in a thread, even if you post a comment too. It is really annoying and it will result in a ban.
