Gun like a spyder pilot
Hi I got one of my friends to play for the first time today and he liked my spyder pilot acs. He enjoyed paintball and is looking for something to use every couple of months. I was thinking of a spyder pilot acs or something similar. What is another good beginner electronic sear tripper. He is new and wants something basic, so probably not an electro pneumatic. He wants to buy used around $60. Thanks, Brett

Check your local Craigslist. Oh, and take a bat/taser/rottweiler.

LOL..
If your friend is only going to play every couple of months I wouldn't even suggest buying an electronic gun. A blowback marker that's properly maintained will work great. Besides, once you get into the higher rates of fire, you're going to want an electronic hopper as well. If he's only looking to spend $60 on a marker, the hopper will put him well over budget.
If you check out the B/S/T section of this forum you can find hundred of used Spyders, Tippmanns, etc. for sale for cheap.

The ACS has eyes, which is a pretty rare feature on electro-mechanicals. If you are happy to be without eyes, anything electronic like the E99 or the Fenix will work. I have a Viewloader High Voltage I play around with and I'm happy with it. It has a spring-loaded ACS bolt, however, which makes things easier and doesn't make me need eyes to avoid chopping.

It isn't electronic, however it is a great marker. It's about as good as Spyders get, consistency wise, and it's darn near impossible to break. I would recommend a better mask, as most masks in the kits tend not to be the most comfortable. Overall, though, that's not a bad choice! It's dependable and perfect for someone just starting out!

There is absolutely nothing wrong with starting with an electronic gun, just like there's nothing wrong starting with a pump.
Just play!

Actually (I'm a hardcore Tippmann fan as well, so don't get take me wrong here) I've seen more Spyders work than I have seen Tippmanns. I have had several A5s quit on me, while my Viewloader Triton II (Spyder-clone) has never ceased functioning over 40,000+ rounds! Tippmann is build stronger, I'll give you that, but as far as internals, the stacked-tube blowback design is impossible to break without serious force or excessive wear.
But, if the 98C is your taste, more power to ya! Keep it maintained and clean (especially clean, I've seen too many dirty guns stop working) and it'll work just fine for ya!

How my brother? How does a spyder outlast a tippmann? Ever? After the mushroom clouds clear and the radiation sets in, there will be only two things left. Cockroaches and tippmanns.

You have a point there...
I'm just saying what I've seen. Take 10 people with brand new Tippmann 98Cs. Take another 10 people with brand new Spyder Victors (or whatever the Spyder equivalent to the 98C is now) and have them shoot until something breaks. Most likely, that's going to be a Spyder that breaks first, probably an o-ring. The next thing that breaks, usually more catastrophically, will be that Tippy. I've seen valves crack, bolts implode, heck, I've even seen a body crack! It didn't used to be that way, before Tippmann started outsourcing everything.
Just telling it as I see it...

That's kind of a big statement. I can't get behind it I'm afraid. Each to his own.
