I've never owned one but my mom works at Petco. Research on ferrets because some of them can be mean as ****. They usually smell and require constant bathing. They poop ALOT!

Ferrets aren't "hard" to take care of. Bathing them makes them smell worse. The problem is, they wash themselves in their own piss which makes them smelly. Keep them in a well ventilated room and buy that ferret spray, burn a candle, and you'll be fine.

Fun pets though if you get friendly ones. The weasel hops are awesome.
My tea's gone cold I'm wondering why I.. got out of bed at all The morning rain clouds up my window.. and I can't see at all And even if I could it'd all be gray, but your picture on my wall It reminds me, that it's not so bad, it's not so bad.

Thumbs up

ferrets are awesome don't know why they are hating on them...I have 2 myself and make sure you only bathe them at most once a week or there scent glands over work and they smell even worse. Keep them in a well ventilated room like said above and keep there cage clean I clean mine about once every 2 to 3 days. And also don't buy ferret litter just buy cat litter which is 5 times cheaper and just says cat on it. Kitten food is also a great alternative if you don't want to pay 25 bucks a bag just make sure it has about 30% protein. Just make sure you get one under a yr old so you can potty train it if it already isn't and get them descented which cuts down on the scent a lot. Also you can prevent it from getting mean if you get them out about 2 times a day for a hour or so each time.

To be honest, these things are not good house pets. I had one and it was cool, but they are little *******s and they WILL STEAL your things. They aren't as slick as they think they are so you will find their stash and laugh; however, it's just not worth the stench or maintenance.

Get a real pet. It's like buying a rodent and calling it your pet.

It's still a rodent.

They aren't easy to keep, at all. You cannot keep them cooped up in a cage all the time (even if it's just a day or two) or they will lose their minds.

If you have to ask about them you aren't ready.

The amount of misinformation in this thread is horrible.

A - They smell because they have musk glands through out their bodies. NOT because they "Piss on themselves" Yes, they can be nippy if not handled regularly and are very mischievous animals. They are part of the weasel family. It's just how they are. I've own a few personally and they each have their own personalities. Some are super fun, love to play; while others don't want to be bothered. Also Females can die if they go into heat and aren't bread.

B - Do some reading about them on the INTERNET or an owners group etc. They are illegal in some states.

C - Finally please don't buy an animal you have no intent on learning everything about, or taking care of or treating if it becomes ill or needs medical attention. It's not fair to the animal...
