one place I played at had .50 cal rental guns. they didn't seem to shoot nearly as far and paint seemed to bounce a lot. I also had one ******* tuck their foot in after I shot it and saw it break. a case of .50 cal is cheaper than a case of .68 so there is some cost savings when you don't change the price of a rental package and a bag of balls. I'm kinda surprised it didn't catch on with the tourney scene because you could carry a **** ton of it but then you have to worry about running out of air and I have no idea what the difference in efficiency is from .68 to .50

It's very possible joules are used due to the distance the force travels after impact, which would be a direct correlation to the time the impact is felt.

If paint breaks when a particular force is applied, then the average force the receiver applies to the paint (equal to the average force the paint applies until it breaks) is going to affect the time felt as well. Thus if both .68 and .50 caliber paint travel the same distance into skin the .68 will have a higher joule rating because of it's increased mass. A way to negate that would be to make the .50 caliber paint break after traveling a farther distance after impact, decreasing the brittleness and possibly causing paint to not break.

BTW I'm tired and this might not make any sense when I wake up.

I must recant.

It is ok to use joules when talking about "potential" to do work, but I still contend that at the impact point PSI is a better unit of measure.

.50 cal to me felt less pleasant than getting hit with .68, although bounces always seem to sting a bit more.

50 cal is ideal for indoor fields where it is a shorter range, where 50 cal can break easily.

68 is certainly ideal for outdoor or large indoor fields.

In airsoft, rifles can not engage at close range where sidearms like pistols are used.

The other thing, is maybe 50 cal pistols can co exist with 68. No more close range mercy, just pull out the 50 pistol and shoot. Same as airsoft, if you are playing CQB paintball, or milsim, a lot of buildings are involved, a 50 cal pistol makes sense.

I'd say Bob found out there's no money in making more 50cal. guns.

less pain, less of a mark. This is why it wont work for competitive play.. it is how ever perfect for kids.. enter: JT!

The inventors of 50 cal unknowing opened the door for JT to come out with a product that WILL help get new people into the sport

Our indoor field CQB just lowers the FPS of your marker to 250 and uses reballs for less mess, but still 68 cal. I do agree 50 cal pistols would be cool but more of a novelty. I am not about to drop my high end and unholster my sidearm to pop someone in their bunker. Half the "surrenders" I offer end with me shooting them because of the surprise factor when they wheel their marker towards me.
