is it a dye or ink that is rubbed into a lasered pattern? I think thats how the leapord spot dark shocker was done. I cant imagine that a laser alone would produce colors, maby altering existing colors like baking ano can do.

Laser engraving leaves the surface raw, so I was thinking dye aswell. I wonder if its treated as a mask, if its sealed, if its the same dye used for anno, how close it could be to anno that's gone through the entire process.. could be what I've been looking for

Proper laser engraving doesn't leave the surface raw, although you can certainly achieve that with most lasers.
There is a special chemical that you can use while engraving to turn objects black, although I have never seen another color offered. It would be interesting to know how they did this but I'm sure they'll be tight lipped about it.
It would be nice to see better pictures of the detail in that top g6r.

What would happen if you engraved "to deep" and left the surface raw, then re-anno'd? I guess what I'm is, what would happen if you anno'd a surface that is already anno'd? would it mess it up, or would it be unaffected?

well, obviously it can, I just want to know WHAT happens. I don't think there is anything that makes it physically impossible to try to anno anno'd parts. I imagine they would not come out pretty though.

The guy who owns it entered it the Norcal GOTM. Unless the pictures are not doing it justice, it looks like hell.

Don't be such a naysayer acid. It's possible the owner of the marker knows what it is, and that this is something new. My first thought was no way, but I'd prefer to think maybe until confirmed otherwise.

I read a post that the pink G6r lasering is just pink highlighter. THe kid is apparently really shady (was banned for feedback fraud)
Id assume the DLX stuff is trade secret stuff.

If these were laser engraved, the engraver isn't making the color. Believe me, the million other people who own lasers would have heard about it first.
I suspect they are engraving these deep enough to remove the anodizing layer (not typically done when engraving a gun) then they're re-anodizing them.

I agree^
This is a big deal because you can create finer detail than you could with a mask.
Anyone with the capabilities willing to give it a try?

Meh I think people are just coloring their engraving with markers.
If you tried to re anodize the acid will damage the first layer and there is the whole trouble of making a connection on an already anodized part.

Do you think DLX is using markers? Those are factory guns.
People have been masking guns for years to get two colors, how else would you get splash affects and tattoo jobs. Like shooter said, I think they're using this instead of a mask to get better detail. I would like to see one of these guns up close, I think you'd be able to tell if that were the case.
