Verizon changing plan offerings

Quote:
Verizon has been promising shared data plans for awhile, so it's with some relief (and trepidation) we can say they're here. Share Everything, as it's called, starts off with the assumption you'll want unlimited voice and messages and then bolts on shared data along with a maximum of 10 individual devices: a core plan starts at $50 per month for 1GB of data and requires that you tack on $40 a month for every smartphone, $30 for basic phones, $20 for hotspots and $10 for tablets. Of course, Verizon will gladly let you pay for more data if your family loves to stream Netflix on 4G all day, up to $100 for a common pool of 10GB. A stiff price, but it also includes tethering or hotspot creation support on any device in the mix. The new plans will be ready to tempt you away from your unlimited data on June 28th.

I don't trust posts from Enron. Are you price fixing these data plans?

Edit: wait no, price fixing was ADM; dang it.

There's an additional fee of $10/month/device.

I was at the VZ store on Friday getting 4G hotspots for two new sales guys ($50/month for 5GB per hotspot), and the lady was trying to get me to switch our 15 existing hotspots (all billing $50/month/hotspot for 5GB) to the shared plan and put the 2 new ones on it as well. She claimed it would save us money, and I kept asking her to explain it again as I didn't think it would. I finally said "so we can go with the regular plan for $50/month/hotspot for 5GB (10GB total and $100/month), or we can go with the 10GB shared plan for the same amount of data and same number of devices, but that's going to be $100 + $20 (10Gb total for $120/month). She just said "yeah you're right" and rang me up.

Your new plan actually would have been $140. It's $20/device for hotspots.

Didn't work out for us, as we have three smartphones, two basic phones, and a hotspot. We currently pay ~$245. New plan would have increased it by $10 or so.

A friend of my little sister is going to save some money on it, though. They pay $130/month for one basic phone and one smartphone. They'll move to the 2GB plan (the dad uses like 200MB per month) and get both smartphones for $130 (after his 15% discount).
