Question on VA Gi bill situation I am currently in.

My school asked for a member 4 dd214, but I never received a member 4. Only a member 1. I ended up getting a service-2 dd214 from my ebenefits account last night.

Has anyone had their service-2 dd214 work in place of the member 4? I do know they are the same when it comes to the bottom few boxes.

Im pretty sure this service-2 is all I can come by.

Thanks!

I've never heard of anyone NOT receiving a member 4 copy. If it were me, I'd call my old unit headquarters and ask around til they told me what's up.

If you haven't done so already, contact your county veteran service officer. Mine was very helpful for me and all of my buddies that I have referred to him.

How do you not have a member 4? More importantly how do you walk out of the office when you got out, without a member 4? That's like, the only piece of paper EVERYONE looks forward to when they get out. I value that paper more than I like jerking off.

Ive came across a few posts across the net with the same issue, never got one. Ive made quite a few calls, no luck. Requested a copy from the main hub, and got what I could off of ebenefits.

I had NO clue there was more than one dd214. I got out and thought I was good... I had a dd214 in hand, guess I was wrong.

Anyone else? From doing some research it seems any time you request a copy of your member 4, you get the service-2. They dont have copies of the member 4. They are identical... which pisses me off.

You would have had to initial in block 30 to request your member 4 when you discharged. For whatever reason you didn't do that. The member 4 is the copy specifically made for you.
VA can't process your ed benefits without a character of discharge, that's why they need the M4...

NARA maintains an online request system called eVetRecs

yeah so hey i didn't tell you guys?
ptsd is confirmed to be service related, so **** you VA lets see you argue with someone that has a PHD.......................though i'm sure they will
and get this, she thought i was an alcoholic while in the service. uhhhhhhhhhh...........just becasue i go through two or three 24's of beer in a week doesn't make me one? i was in the infantry. **** off

also putting in a claim for the back at the same time. same with the knees. the chick from VA threw in my hearing as well, my hearing isn't bad but i know it's worse from when i came in and left the service

not sure how this going to affect me getting back in. i mean the bosses don't need to know unless they ask. it's not gunfire that bothers me. it's other ****.

Anyone know how to go about looking into VA benefits for Tinnitus? I had multiple hearing tests that said hearing was not great. Didn't do anything about it. About 2 years ago I developed tinnitus in my right ear. I've been out since 97 so it might be a mute point, but since this was bumped why not ask?

There is no time limit in applying for benefits, Vietnam vets are still applying for claims. If you go into eBenefits you should be able to add a new claim and upload supporting documents, but be warned; it takes a long time for claims to be processed.

I got 10% for my tinnitus... I'm not sure how to go about it though. That's what I was rated when I got out in 2011. I haven't talked to the VA about any medical compensation since because they are rediculous.

Your disability rating has no effect on your job, civilian or military. I'm 40% with full 1's in the guard.

As long as you can perform all the required tasks listed in the job description safely you can not be disqualified from the job due to your %. As far as I know it is still illegal for them to even ask about your disability status. The only time I would mention anything regarding the service is if skills, certificates, and/or schools apply to the job you are after or if they have a veterans preference scoring system for hiring

There are two disability ratings- one is no **** disability, and the other is service connected VA disability. Bad ptsd gives you both, loss of limb gives you both, sleep apnea gives you VA, tinnitus gives you VA.

Make sense? One is a measure of being disabled and the other is a measure of how much your body got screwed up while you were active.
