A serrated edge is really restricted to a couple of tasks, while a straight edge can do anything. They're also a ***** to sharpen.

Nope. Because the little serrated section is often so small that you can't even use it for anything. The straight edge is the obvious choice. |

It would be good for cutting rope with. But that's the only plus I can think of. What you need is a hunting survival knife with a straight edge on one side and a serrated edge on the other.

Hardly good enough for cutting rope. Like I said, it's too small. And a well-sharpened straight edge would be pretty useful for that, as well.
I don't know if I'd want a knife with a serrated and straight edge, though. For bushcraft, I don't want to worry about ****ing up one of the sides if I'm beating on the knife.
