This was a debate between another poster and I in ST that lasted a solid two posts, figured it was a thread worthy topic.

I can understand a vote for the Lombardi trophy, but anyone who votes Commish or O'Brien are out of their minds.

O'Brien is definitely out of consideration, but in conversations like this it's kinda obligatory you include it anyways.
Commish, though, I wouldn't say someone who goes with that is necessarily out of their minds, considering it's the World Series and all.

Larry obrien has lost its edge because 1. There are dude that have won it like a billion times. And 2. In order to win, you just sign with the spurs, celtics or lakers and wait your turn, not impressive.

Both the Cup and the Lombardi trophy are probably equally recognizable in both the US and Canada. As for more iconic, in the US it would be the Lombardi trophy, and in Canada it would be the Stanley Cup, just because those are the most popular sports per country.
Why is the FIFA World cup trophy not in the discussion by the way? soccer is the most popular sport in the world, thus that trophy is probably the most iconic in the world
