That is why I suggest a gradual build up in gear. Save for each piece so you can get a good quality one and still play. Think of it like goals. Each piece is a step toward.

I'm not advocating the use or purchase of broken gear... Simply pointing out that a high end marker with a $30 halo and a $30 aluminum tank will shoot just as fast and good as the same marker with a $160 tank and $200 loader. IMO if your trying to get the best bang for your buck I would spend the extra $300 on a marker vs. overpowered hoppers or 4.5K tanks that most fields cant even fill all the way.

Part of life is being able to filter the good advice from the bad, PBN is no exception.

This comes down to personal preference it seems with brands and wants.

JC001 is correct, the difference between a high end hopper and a hopper such as a Halo, Vlocity, or REloader would be marginal.

Bad advice? Advocating someone to be careful about what they spend isn't a bad thing to do at all. Buying a great hopper and a great tank, even brand new, will be cheaper than most great performing markers. Renting for awhile will give you a quick taste of what it's like on the field. I'm pretty sure pbnation is here to create a positive atmosphere for all ballers, not put down others you don't agree with.

I ask that you please keep posts set in a positive form. Back and forth heel biting is not going to be helpful to the content of this thread.

Good thread, hopefully some newbs will read this and see a few different points of view. Then they can make up their own minds as to how they want to spend their money!

why buy a high end gun if your tank can only hold 3 pods worth of air?

there are ways to maximze your budget, getting a used 4500 tank and a working electronic hopper is maybe 150, 90 bucks wont be the difference from a high end to a low end gun... so again, gear>gun. you can also play with a rental gun with a nice mask, tank, and hopper before you get a gun

and i wasnt talking about buying a z2 or rotor, i just meant dont get a crappy hopper because you want another 20 bucks for a better gun

Riddle me this! Riddle me that!

...

I dunno dude, I would never let my friends play with a rental gun. And im not sure why anyone would want to put an electronic hopper or 4.5K tank on a tippman. But would I let my boys rock out with a decent electro with halo and aluminum tank?... yes I would.

so you wouldnt let them use a rental gun for 1 or 2 times as they saved up for a gun, but you would let them buy a rental tank?

Sorry, man. Didn't mean to sound like a douche. But I think that now I'm understanding your point. A better tank/hopper won't necessarily do anything a gravity hopper and **** tank can't on a low end.

Well, I actually am soon to have 3 complete set-ups. One for me and 2 for guests so they can try the sport with machine guns... and yes I have a 48 ci 3000PSI aluminum tank in my gear bag....I'm a baller, what can I say.

Would I advise someone to buy a rental tank? depends, if the field will let them borrow one for free then no, but at around $30-$40 brand new I don't see the point in wasting money renting at that price... I normally advise to buy a 68ci/4.5k tank...but...if money is tight... skimp on the tank not the gun, a 68ci 3k aluminum tank will do fine if it has to... a low end mechanical, a rental if you will, is going to perform poorly regardless of what you connect to it.

another thing to remember is dont buy the most expensive thing you can. playing with something that is sub-par for a little while might help you work harder at getting better.

My setup right now is a g4, vlocity, and I just received a 68/45 CF, and I'm getting a UL or maybe freak, would it be weird if me and my team showed up at a beginner tourney without a jersey and maybe pants? We might be able to wear our high schools shirts

While I agree that you should not break the bank when buying your gear, you shouldn't be buying sub par gear on purpose. When I was buying my first set of gear, I bought a Spyder because it was the best that I could afford at the time. If I had a grand to blow on paintball when I was first shopping around, I probably would have gone with the gun I have now, the FX. There is no reason to artificially limit yourself, and you aren't going to learn anything with a cheap gun that you can't learn with a more expensive one.

The only people who care about what others wear to tournaments are the ones who are never going to progress. You'll be fine in whatever you wear. Good luck at your tournament.

I wish i would have read something like this back when i started, because i did exactly what this tells you not to and i regreted it. DON'T buy gun kits! Unless its fairly decent equipment in the kit, which it usually isn't. Also do alot of research on everything you go to buy itll pay off big time in the end! I hope alot of people read these threads! ohhh eah and deffinately make sure your into the sport before investing!

Lookin' good!

Talk about the different kinds of loaders, too!

Agitation vs gravity vs assisted gravity vs forcefed and "smart" loaders (anti jam and all that jazz)
