boss bolt paint hard on paint?!?

With my stock bolt and stock dwell and 180 psi the gun was smooth and was very gentle on paint. Sticking your finger in the breach and the gun didn't seem to hit your finger very hard.

well i installed the vs boss today want put the gun at the recommended specs 3ms (12 blinks); 160 psi, and short spring. when shooting it began breaking paint. putting your finger in the breach is down right painful. Obviously I DON'T LIKE THESE SETTINGS.

Can someone recommend settings that will give a smooth shot the is softer on paint while still being reasonable on air?

Tune like in my signature. Your settings might not be optimal and might just be to high in spots.

Try long spring for being easier on paint.

i would go with the stock spring or the long spring. and just up your dwell. stock spring is going to be the most gentle on paint. bc it is stiffer than the boss springs, which slows down the forward speed of the bolt.

4 ms dwell should be enough with my long spring, maybe 4.5ms. Are you under boring your barrel? Have you actually shot it over a chrono? You may be just too hot with the veloctiy right now. 160 PSI is really quite high for my bolt. Let me know if any of this helps. If you need to make it more gentle you can use the o-ring that came with the bolt to tune it even more gentle.

How is the fit when sliding the bolt back and forth on the bolt guide? I ask because in my case there was no resistance and I had paint breakage. Didn't matter what spring I used or if I used the larger oring. I changed the bolt guide orings and played with it this Saturday with zero breaks all day shooting Ultra Evil. Didn't matter if I used my Z2 or Rotor, both worked fine. Check the video for additional info on the bolt fit:

I tried adjusting the vid to the specific point where he discusses this @ 5m07s but it isn't working.

No friction on the guide + lowered spring resistance = SUPER fast cycling. Increase guide friction and use the stock spring and your problems should disappear.

If you do use the stock spring on the Boss Bolt remove the shock o-ring and spacer. I would suggest using the optional o-ring that came with the bolt and follow the tuning instructions for that first.
